Usborne Sponsored Read

DC has brought a letter home from school about Usborne Sponsored Read. Parents etc sponsor children to read, the money raised is spent on usborne books for the school and usborne donate an additional 60% of books on top.

Part of me thinks, ooh lovely, books for the school, A Good Thing.

Part of me thinks this is money making opportunity for Usborne and school could prob get better value from amazon anyway. Or buying second hand books and having a wider range to choose from.

So AIBU?

YANBU

And it is why we're not participating in the one that preschool are doing. If something is sponsored then I expect the money to go directly to the preschool, but it has to go to the Osbourne rep who is clearly going to be making a cut on all of it.

I am going to speak to the preschool and make a donation directly to them to use for books instead.

Hmmm... if Usborne give an additional 60% then it's probably not bad value. Obviously Usborne have a vested interest, but they do lots of really good books. I don't think I would mind this too much.
