am I alone in thinking its not right to fake reduced movement, so the hospital induces you? ive noticed a few people saying it but ive never even considered it. It seems really selfish.

I requested an induction for my second on my due date, as I understand it it's the same right to request as a c-section. I know a lot of hospitals are crap with following nice guidelines and i feel for the women stuck with these hospitals, but I asked my consultant and he simply booked me in (disclaimer I do have factor V leiden so more at risk of an aging placenta so that's why ibgad more input from the consultant etc).

With my first I panicked a LOT and went in with reduced movements/falling over quite a few times and although I did end up being induced it was for an unrelated reason. (I had the pessary/drip/ARM and whilst it wasn't my fave thing ever it was overall fine).

I do think hospitals should offer an induction/c-section on the due date, I've seen FAR too many mothers on SM who had a post 40 week stillbirth and I do think the very real risk is played down my hospitals. My consultant actually agreed with me that it should be policy to offer it to everyone at 40 weeks!

Sorry to hear your story @blue4you your experience is why hospitals should be investigating every complaint of reduced movements, they really failed you and your DD x

Oh it's definitely a thing. People never cease to shock me these days.

I went 9 days overdue and so god damn uncomfortable because I was adamant I wanted as natural a labour as possible.

I did nothing to try and bring on labour as everything I'd read Into and heard from other people's experiences, bringing on labour before baby is truly ready usually ends up with an assisted delivery or C-section and I never wanted to put myself or my child at risk.

I went into labour naturally and had a natural delivery. Best decision I ever made, letting my body do what it was supposed to do.

This horrifies me. Ds2 was induced nearly 3 weeks early due to reduced movements and frequent bleeding in pregnancy. He was in neonatal for a week as he couldn’t breathe properly and in and out of hospital until 2 with breathing difficulties.

Ds3 was an elective c section as he was breech and I had a low lying placenta. I bled heavily at times during pregnancy and passed out in front of midwifes. He was born at 38.5 weeks and needed extra care to. Nobody should make up reduced movements. My babies survived due to the wonderful care of the NHS doctors and nurses but I would rather go overdue than go through what I did.

Annie19855 · 14/07/2021 23:30

I dont see how anyone could do this. My last baby was born at 36 weeks because the whole time i was pregnant i felt him moving very little. That little i had to be monitored every second day for his heartbeat. The midwifes can tell with the readings on the graphs what your baby is doing. Should never lie about this kind of thing. Growing a baby you feel nothing or little movement with is not a pleasant experience.

Wouldnt surprise me.

In the EPAU for (another) scan for (another) miscarriage and there was a young woman there with her whole damned family (partner, ma, pa and two sisters). It was clear that she, unlike the other 5 of us waiting, wasnt in fear of losing her baby she just wanted a scan.

They were waving the scan pic around when they came out (I made a PALS complaint that anyone other than her partner was allowed in to the waiting room at all) when I and one other woman, at least, were waiting for our HCG blood tests to confirm our miscarriages. So yes, I can totally see people faking that too.

Onestep2021 · 15/07/2021 00:01

3 episodes of reduced movements and then it’s induction (as long as 37wks or over) when coming in for 3rd time. I was told it was standard practice all
Over the country. Even if the baby has perfectly fine CTGs - as they trust mother’s instinct more and CTGs just give snapshot.

I can’t understand in most normal
cases why anyone would want an induction..:

Onestep2021 · 15/07/2021 00:02

@Annie19855
That must have been very stressful for you. Can I ask, was there any particular reason you felt the baby move so little?

Summerfun54321 · 15/07/2021 00:43

Stupid people do all sorts of stupid stuff. You’d have to be exceptionally stupid to fabricate problems with your baby and lie to those who are meant to be there to help you.
@newmummy21 Well I'm glad it's a zombie thread at least. Hopefully attitudes have moved on since 2014.
Someone told me this too. I genuinely was having what I thought were reduced movements. I had an anterior placenta and I struggled to feel DD. After previous loss I was beside myself with worry and did go in a few times for everything to be fine.

I also had an amniotic band and another condition which meant I was due to be induced at 39weeks anyway so needed the be extra careful.

On my third time the midwife examined the stats, said I was having what appeared to be strong contractions and when she examined me I was already in labour so no induction.

Cakeathon · 15/07/2021 05:38

I will say though I hope no one who thinks they are experiencing reduced movements feels put off by this thread in case people think they are faking. Especially if they have been more than once.

ALWAYS GO.

I originally posted this, haha makes me feel happy with renewed interest. To be clear this was something I had seen on Facebook where some people I was friends with were discussing doing. I was induced with my first and the pain was horrendous she came quickly but that was 6 years before I posted this. People are crazy, someone told me with my second to down castor oil. I thought we got over suggesting that in the 90s
