am I alone in thinking its not right to fake reduced movement, so the hospital induces you? ive noticed a few people saying it but ive never even considered it. It seems really selfish.

Zombie thread!!!! Is that an inactive zombie needing induced out from host

bananamonkey · 14/07/2021 21:37

FFS don’t they show the zombie warning anymore?

Mulhollandmagoo · 14/07/2021 21:38

I do know someone who did it, she really persisted, she was induced a week earlier after citing severe anxiety (not the case, as she very proudly told us) she went through the ringer and ended up with an emergency section 2 days before her due date Hmm so really wasn't worth it for her, but I'd have assumed the hospital could debunk this with a bit of time on a monitor though?

allfurcoatnoknickers · 14/07/2021 21:38

@Itsmeagainandagain

Nothing surprises me when it comes to human stupidity... Most normal mothers only wish for a least painful and quick delivery of a healthy baby( very few get the least painful and quick delivery's but almost all have healthy babies) then there is the few psychos that would risk harm upon their child to have the longest and most painful birth by electing to inducing labour...cant they wait a few weeks for nature to take its course? A few more weeks of peace and quiet before baby arrives..
I was going to be induced on my due date due to crippling pre-natal anxiety and depression. My mental health was so bad I had to see a psychiatrist every week and not knowing when I would go into labour and what it would be like almost sent me over the edge. I ended up needing a c-section, but the plan was to induce me and give me an epidural immediately.

Not a psycho, unless you think anyone with pregnancy related mental health problems is a total nutter.

Also, I live in a big city and had to leg it to a few appointment when heavily pregnant - including climbing a lot of stairs. Often arrived out of breath and sweaty, never caused me to have high blood pressure flagged.

newmummy21 · 14/07/2021 21:38

So far we have "psychos" and "insane" women who opt for induction on health grounds. Lovely!

I'm so sorry to hear about your struggles ... mine were similar. Terrible use of phrasing on this thread!

When I say similar I mean I also struggled with crippling pre-natal anxiety and depression.

Ah frig!!! Sorry
EspressoDoubleShot · 14/07/2021 21:43

I didn’t notice it was zombie,I piled in as it’s on active convos
7year on I think the baby will be well out, playing fortnite and eating pizza

FedNlanders · 14/07/2021 21:45

That is so odd. I was scared of being induced.

EspressoDoubleShot · 14/07/2021 21:47

I have to say it’s shocking & sad to read pejorative terms regarded mental health
Maternal mental health is a legitimate reason to request a CS or induction, and a good mw will have picked up if mum has anxieties and relay this to the MDT and support the mum

parsnipsnotsprouts · 14/07/2021 21:49

Yes people do it. I was induced for reduced movements. I imagine those that lie about it regret it swiftly if they end up on one of those evil drips. Awful experience. Mine did have a double knot in her cord though so I’m glad she didn’t stay in any longer

It is shocking and sad indeed. It's been a while since I've come across the term "psycho" used in that way. Dreadful. Maternal mental health is absolutely a valid reason for induction of labour. It's a shame people aren't more educated and/or sensitive to such issues.

Opalfeet · 14/07/2021 21:50

People may want to be induced as they are worried about age of placenta etc. I can understand it to a certain extent if the hospital are waiting too long.

Opalfeet · 14/07/2021 21:51

@parsnipsnotsprouts exactly! The pain is worth it for the health of the baby

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 14/07/2021 21:55

Policy in most hospitals now is to induce if two incidents of reduced movements and you are at term, even if you are monitored and it shows up ok. So yes it does work.

babbaloushka · 14/07/2021 22:01

@Fruityfriday

How can you fake high blood pressure? This thread is making me feel sad, I'd have given anything to have given birth late compared to having a 2lb scrappy 30 weeker
Flowers I had a scrapper too.
3scape · 14/07/2021 22:06

But they hook you up to a machine to check if you suspect reduced movement... I was high risk and fell, they sat me down. Gave me a cold drink and got him jumping around again. But before I could feel that I could clearly see the readout showing him wriggling.

NCJuly2021 · 14/07/2021 22:09

@Mommabear20 How on earth did you find this thread? And why comment?! It’s 7 years old!

parsnipsnotsprouts · 14/07/2021 22:09

@Opalfeet I think I should have pushed for a c section really though. I would never let anyone near me with pitocin if I knew what it did!

Opalfeet · 14/07/2021 22:37

@parsnipsnotsprouts I'm not sure it would have got you anywhere so rest assured what happened was most likely unavoidable. I was induced with the pessary and it took 3 days to get me to a stage to break my waters and put me on the drip. Throughout this time I repeatedly asked for a c section, told them baby wasn't in the right position and it would end in a c section. They kept refusing/fobbing me off until they broke my waters and I had 12 hours of that God awful drip. Ended in a c section at 9 cm dilated as guess what the baby wasn't in the right position.

I know EXACTLY how you feel X

namechangedForthus · 14/07/2021 22:45

@HauntedNoddyCar

Really? And the hospital just take your word for it, do they?
Yes . As they should

It’s like safeguarding . Malicious referrals are never dealt with in case it puts off a genuine referrer

So a mother reporting reduced movement must always be taken seriously. The actions of a few who fake this shouldnt then cause genuine cases to be disbelieved or have delays due to verifying if a baby is at risk

allfurcoatnoknickers · 14/07/2021 22:54

@newmummy21 Well I'm glad it's a zombie thread at least. Hopefully attitudes have moved on since 2014.

marshmallowmilk · 14/07/2021 22:57

i had a lot of reduced movement. was in multiple times a week for monitoring and only on the 10th occasion did they decide to bring my section forward to 38 weeks. i felt really awkward as i thought they’d think i was faking it for this exact reason.

Blue4YOU · 14/07/2021 23:04

Jesus Christ. I can’t even stomach reading all the stories of people who might have done this.

My first DD died in utero at 39+5 because the hospital wouldn’t let me in when I was having a placental abruption, which all I could describe as were not feeling baby move, intense contractions and not being able to breathe properly. They begrudgingly let me into the maternity unit after several phone calls. I should have been sent an ambulance immediately. Their excuse - it’s busy (Sunday evening, two days before Christmas).

I lost over 4 litres of blood. I nearly, very nearly died.

I had about 30 people in theatre with me trying to keep me alive.

I was intubated while awake. Definitely don’t recommend. I was told I’d probably die.

I grieved that child for years (still do).

Christmas fills me with fear and dread.

For anyone who contemplates doing this - please, please don’t. You undermine genuine concerns.
