faking reduced movement.

am I alone in thinking its not right to fake reduced movement, so the hospital induces you? ive noticed a few people saying it but ive never even considered it. It seems really selfish.

I was induced with DC3, he was 15 days late and showed no signs of moving from where he was.

It wasnt that bad, it was my shortest labour and the easiest birth. Having the drip and my waters burst wasnt nice but I didnt think it was that bad.

But again, why would you want to be induced? Leave the baby to cook unless they go too far over.

Laststop · 04/02/2014 09:25

I know someone who done this and was induced even after monitors showing otherwise Confused

MinesAPintOfTea · 04/02/2014 09:26

I'm puzzled: surely the fb woman was just waiting to see a consultant because they make the call? Not that she would have got one if she hadn't seen the consultant.

I went into hospital with reduced movements: it got me half a night on a trolley attached to the monitor then most of the next day on another trolley waiting for a doctor to come and see me (as my hospital routinely scan for reduced movements and it showed up a minor issue). It was another 10 days before I was actually induced at 40+12.

CuntyBunty · 04/02/2014 09:27

Pity those poor children born to such short sighted, selfish people. Human life it seems, is a commodity Sad, something to fit in around an agenda.

ipswichwitch · 04/02/2014 09:28

Te monitor actually does pick up the baby's movements - the button pressing is to correlate what you feel with what baby's doing. The spiky lines on the printout are baby's movements.

lilyaldrin · 04/02/2014 09:30

How bizarre! Can't think of anything worse than being induced, especially early.

MTBMummy · 04/02/2014 09:34

I'm 34 weeks and also at that fed up stage, I must admit when I get to 38 weeks, I will start looking at raspberry leaf tea, pineapple, hot curries etc, but I tried them all with DD and she still had to be forcibly evicted at 42+1 so I'm not sure I can be arsed.

Besides I'm still working and the last thing I want is to go into labour in the next 3 weeks because it'll probably be in the office or on the train!

I am shocked that people will make up stories to get attention, which could be crucial to someone else

BumPotato · 04/02/2014 09:35

I went 2 weeks over due date with both my two, so I understand fully the frustration of STILL being pregnant. The people who fake reduced movements are selfish and ignorant.

First time round I was taken straight upstairs for monitoring at 32 weeks when I'd mentioned I hadn't felt the baby moving that day. It was about 11 am and usually she started stirring about 9am (after my morning tea). The minute the monitor straps went round my belly she started kicking furiously and I had to stay there for an hour, very embarrassed. I'd hate to think the staff there thought I was trying it on.

Lambsie · 04/02/2014 09:38

I had reduced movements. The hospital after monitoring me said baby was fine. He was stillborn (and half the weight he should have been) a week later. On my next pregnancy I insisted on a planned section at 37 weeks although I ended up having him at 35 weeks as an emergency section.

BumPotato · 04/02/2014 09:41

So sorry Lambsie. Your post reinforces my opinion that those who try it on are disgusting.

formerbabe · 04/02/2014 09:47

So sorry for your loss lambsie....

I don't think lying to a doctor is ever a good idea. How can they administer correct treatment when its based on lies. It is selfish and a waste of NHS resources.

sashh · 04/02/2014 09:50

You would be amazed at what people will attempt.

Lung function tests - no just holding your breath will not make it look like you have lung damage.

ECGs - no wiggling the wires will just create an artifact not make it look like a heart attack

Ambulances - just because you don't want to pay your taxi fare home don't phone for an ambulance because you live near the hospital (OK that's one I don't have first hand knowledge of, but it was a reliable source, the third time the took him to a hospital miles away).

Waiting in A and E for 2 hours, suddenly developing chest pain to be seen sooner.

I've also heard the one about smoking, the, 'well she was 10Lbs, if I hadn't smoked she would have been huge, better that I smoked'.

WeAreEternal · 04/02/2014 09:52

I know someone (my cousins DW) who has done this with all three of her pregnancies.
She has also lied about bleeding and pain to get extra scans, she had seven scans in her last pregnancy all on the NHS.

she is an incredibly entitled person and seems to genuinely believe that it is acceptable behaviour.

Surprisingly I don't like her very much.

Lambsie · 04/02/2014 09:52

People who are saying there is a problem when there isn't are taking attention away from those that need it. On the other hand if someone has got reduced movements they must go in and be persistent about it if they still feel something is wrong.

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 04/02/2014 10:12

Fake it all you want but it won't mean you are just induced. The midwives will monitor you and see how the baby is really doing.

I nearly lost my baby at 38 weeks and when I was expecting my second they scanned me weekly and even with the worry they wouldn't have induced me early.

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 04/02/2014 10:17

There is a poster on here who has just given someone an idea that might get them an unnecessary induction Hmm.

LaGuardia · 04/02/2014 10:23

Oooooh it really really hurts to be induced. Why would anyone choose to be Confused

HauntedNoddyCar · 04/02/2014 10:38

Absolutely Lambsie.

Well I am fucking gobsmacked that people actually do this. Stupid, stupid women. And as for starting to take castor oil at 27 weeks to bring on labour is outrageous. I'd rather lumber around pregnant than be stood in scbu watching them canulate my tiny baby through his scalp and stick another ngt in.

Fucking idiots.

Mmmbacon · 04/02/2014 11:25

Castor oil at 27 weeks?, thats disgusting,

BumPotato · 04/02/2014 11:36

Castor oil works then? I always assumed it was an old wives tale.

MinesAPintOfTea · 04/02/2014 11:40

Even if its an old wives tale the intent is still there.

BumPotato · 04/02/2014 11:42

Using that logic, pregnant ladies should avoid hot curries and pineapple.

lilyaldrin · 04/02/2014 11:42

Castor oil "works" by giving you the raging shits and hopefully irritating your womb enough to push your into labour. It's pretty dangerous for the baby though.

LeBFG · 04/02/2014 11:45

My sis did this. She was waaayyyy overdue, enoorrmous and going loopy actually with it all. The hospital were totally uninterested and very busy. It worked. SHe got induced.

MeepMeepVrooooom · 04/02/2014 11:53

LeBFG, exactly what do you mean by "waaayyyy overdue"?
