To be appalled by Top Gear 02/02/14

I am watching with my head in my hands and with a sick feeling. The 'team' are driving around a closed supermarket in small hot hatchbacks . The idea is for them to go round as quickly as possible

The amount of food that is wantonly destroyed is just sickening. There are families who have no food to eat today because of a variety of reasons and these idiots are finding it hilarious to drive over perfectly edible food for fun.

Surely there must be a better way to spend our TV license money than pay these old men and the programme makers who dream up this stuff.

pathetically contrived and predictable

This. The BBC at its laziest, it is worthy of neither admiration nor outrage.

arselikekylie · 02/02/2014 22:11

It's a brilliant program. I love it.

TheresAlwaysLegoInMyPocket · 02/02/2014 22:12

And just for info, for the interested ones, Tom Hiddleston's on it next week, just saying. As you were.

Sparklysilversequins · 02/02/2014 22:16

I'm Grin that TH is on, ds is ecstatic that "Loki" is on, win win!

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/02/2014 22:18

Haven't seen yet. On planner for Tom
Night

But love the hammy and blowing up caravans etc

MrsBennetsEldest · 02/02/2014 22:22

Over use of wanton....

hoobypickypicky · 02/02/2014 22:23

"They just blew up a car!"

Oh good, Hamlets, that's one for the iPlayer then. Cheers. :)

OP, your head in your hand-ness is wasted on me, I'm afraid.

TheresAlwaysLegoInMyPocket · 02/02/2014 22:24

Yep, I don't watch it but will def be watching next week. Apparently it's the 'stars drive reasonably priced cars' slot.
Shame it's not 'stars drive cars in their underwear'

Pigsmummy · 02/02/2014 22:28

I am more concerned about my cat farting during the episode tbh, if he does it again next week should I LTB?

Pigsmummy · 02/02/2014 22:30

Sorry meant "LTC"

Cabrinha · 02/02/2014 22:31

But OP, why aren't you outraged by the petrol used, when there are families who will miss out on money to buy good because they can't afford to drive to the only jobs available?

It's the same waste as the food. It's just a cost involved in the programme. A programme that is profitable, and creates employment - it isn't taking food from anyone.

Janorisa · 02/02/2014 22:33

I don't think YABU. I hate waste too...especially food. I love watching cookery programmes, but I always wonder about the wasted food.

Bearfrills · 02/02/2014 22:35

OP, YABU. It's entertainment and a fake supermarket with fake food. If you're so very concerned why not sell your TV and donate the proceeds to your local food bank? Entertainment has its place and just because you don't enjoy this particular how doesn't mean that everyone else should dislike it too. You come across as a bit sanctimonious to be honest, so what if I've eaten today and have food in the fridge for tomorrow, it's awful that there are people who don't (and I donate to the food bank when I go to the supermarket) but I'm not going to feel guilty because a, I ate something and b, I sniggered at three men driving cars around a fake supermarket.

I love Top Gear. I'm fairly sure DS might have been conceived to an episode of it as it was pissing down one afternoon and repeats of Top Gear was the only English-speaking show that our Tunisian hotel room TV would pick up.

GiniCooper · 02/02/2014 22:36

That wasn't even real food.

If it was a real supermarket I would search the aisles and buy you a grip OP.

80sMum · 02/02/2014 22:40

It all sounds terribly puerile to me, like naughty school boys messing about.
I preferred the old Top Gear programme, before Jeremy Clarkson came along, when it used to be about cars, not about some silly boys showing off!

Pigsmummy · 02/02/2014 22:41

About my cat?

HauntedNoddyCar · 02/02/2014 23:01

If you wanted to be outraged about mountains of food being chucked out, you should have been watching Countryfile on BBC 1 half an hour earlier. Real food from real supermarkets. Tons and tons of it.

I adore TG and have come over all unnecessary at Hammond in a tache.

Sparklingbrook · 02/02/2014 23:11

YABU. Top Gear is entertainment, and very funny.

YY to you should have been watching Countryfile on BBC 1 half an hour earlier that was shocking.

ouryve · 02/02/2014 23:15

One of those "old" men is my age Hmm

ItalianWiking84 · 02/02/2014 23:24

trashy show for old men that never grew up

It's weird how the hateful people are using agism to manifest their own shortcomings.

It's a comedy show loosely about cars.

If you don't like it then don't watch it.

ThatVikRinA22 · 03/02/2014 00:26

YABU to even watch top gear.

he also mentions mumsnet at his gigs.....Smile

caruthers · 03/02/2014 00:27

Stewart Lee is awful.

That is why I avoid anything he does now.

ThatVikRinA22 · 03/02/2014 00:30
