I don't love it, and I don't hate it.

It's not as good as Vegemite, but it'll do at a pinch.

Meh about Marmite? Look at number 8 here: www.buzzfeed.com/expresident/british-people-problems

SanityClause · 02/02/2014 11:05

Yeh, I was already deemed untrustworthy, Chris, what with being forrin and all.

yanbu :) Also am a forriner!

ChrisTheSheep · 02/02/2014 11:17

My husband is Irish: he doesn't like marmite much either Wink

ScentedScandal · 02/02/2014 11:21

'It's not as good as Vegemite, but it'll do at a pinch.' Vegemite??!Shock I am spluttering at any comparison. Vegemite=bleurgh. Marmite=lovely stuff.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 02/02/2014 11:51

Ooh, I love marmite on toast - in fact I've just put two more slices in the toaster whilst I post here ... unfortunately though I only have Tesco's yeast extract and it's just not the same - tis surprisingly different and a bit odd but it will have to do - I'll pile on the butter to compensate Smile
Ooh, it's just popped up Grin

Fedupnagging · 02/02/2014 12:37

Mmmmm marmite, love it especially on toast. Peanut butter and marmite on toast is the food of the gods.

Really dislike bovril and can eat Vegemite only in an emergency.

I might take a jar of marmite with me when I go on holiday

OnlyTheWelshCanCwtch · 02/02/2014 12:39

I find Marmite too salty but the supermarkets own yeast extracts are fine
Vegemite is horrible, have tried it a few times and just don't like it

LosingItSlowly · 02/02/2014 13:33

Fried egg on toast with marmite is amazing.

BoJolly · 02/02/2014 13:39

Marmite mixed together with cottage cheese and spread on toast.

I discovered this wonderful creation when I was pregnant with DS1.

Marmite was my number one craving and I went through giant jars of it every week.

MiddleAgeMiddleEngland · 02/02/2014 13:53

Marmite on wholemeal toast with a generous helping of fried mushrooms on top. The best meal ever.

Sixgeese · 02/02/2014 14:08

Marmite and honey on toast, yum, or cheese and marmite sandwiches (or just licking marmite off a tea spoon when I think the DC aren't looking) - I just love the stuff, DH hates it, and 2 of the DC agree with him but DD1 loves it too. If she finds me in a corner with the jar and a spoon she goes and gets her own spoon to join in.

squizita · 02/02/2014 14:12

I usually like marmite. LOVE marmite on Nairns oatcakes. DH misheard me earlier, thought I asked for marmite on Naan ... now that would be odd.

My favourite version of Marmite was the Guinness limited edition one but the gold one was quite nice too.

I like it on hot buttered toast.

I just think it is marketing genius to sell your product on the basis that some people hate it!

lookout · 02/02/2014 15:14

Marmite on buttery toast/crumpet/muffin is possibly the best thing ever. Bovril and Vegemite just don't match up in any way ever.

Cheese, Marmite, mayo and ham sandwiches are also delicious.

Meglet · 02/02/2014 15:40

I taught the DC's to say 'marmite' when they were learning to talk.

And we love marmite spaghetti

HesterShaw · 02/02/2014 16:54

If they tried banning Marmite in this country it would cause actual civil unrest.

Kaekae · 02/02/2014 17:15

Love it. Marmite on toast or marmite and cheese on toast! I also put some in my Chilli and stews.

Sussex74 · 02/02/2014 17:30

Here's an awesome way of cooking with Marmite:
Spread some Marmite on a raw chicken before putting it in the oven to roast. You'll be amazed at the result. Vary the quantity of Marmite according to taste. I use about one tablespoon. Enjoy!

dumpthegrump · 02/02/2014 19:27

Love Marmite, always have, always will. Bovril is no way as good and Vegemite is for Vegetables, sorry vegetarians.

toldmywrath · 02/02/2014 19:43

I LOVE MARMITE so much so that before I logged on tonight, I was telling my DD that this morning not only did I have it on my chin, but also on my neck so it was a good job I looked in the mirror before going out visiting.
Imagine my surprise when I saw this thread Smile
I don't like Vegemite-tastes peculiar.
