I'm having more trouble thinking of that as art! Seriously, my 5yr does better with her lego bricks!!

Caitlin17 · 02/02/2014 02:26

I wouldn't as one of the biggest snobs you're ever likely to find on here have shopped in All Saints (dreary , unimaginative over priced tatt ) so have no interest in this story

flyingspaghettimonster · 02/02/2014 02:48

I wouldn't let my kids climb on art work, but 10million for a few shelves??! I hate modern art.

Doesn't matter if you think Ikea make better bookshelves or if you think modern art is shite. That is completely besides the point and you're wrong.
No, it's not the nine year olds fault but as children with stupid parents turn into stupid adults, people tend to start shifting the blame.

thedogwakesuptoodamnearly · 02/02/2014 07:34

mia, the aunt was very rude to Stephanie Theodore, the lady that told her that the child shouldn't be climbing on the art. I know we can't know as we weren't there, but I think that's a bit more than just losing attention and letting a mistake happen. Ms T claims she was told ""You don't know anything about children, I feel sorry for any you might have" which is quite nasty.

TamerB · 02/02/2014 07:48

I can now add 'anti-establishment' to my stock of euphemisms for 'badly behaved' (with 'wet' parents.)

kiwimumof2boys · 02/02/2014 08:56

Wow. Just wow. Can you say pretentious ?
The names of these kids. The 'we're so cool and anti establishment but send our kids to public schools.' The name dropping - what has their business interests got to do with their kid being a brat ?
I could go on . . .

Retropear · 02/02/2014 09:00

Loved this!Grin

Twattyzombiebollocks · 02/02/2014 09:04

Aside from the obvious issue, 10 million quid? There were some identical ones in ikea for £40 on Friday. But I wouldn't have let my kids climb on them either..........

RedHelenB · 02/02/2014 09:06

Bet the school would beg to differ!!!

olympicsrock · 02/02/2014 09:06

Hilarious

TamerB · 02/02/2014 09:07

You just know that a child called Sissi Belle will be a problem!

youarewinning · 02/02/2014 09:30

I don't think the 9yo is a brat. She's 9 and behaving in a way most 9yo would want to and within the guidelines of behaviour her parents have laid out for her.

Her parents otoh are completely twats IMO. They've used this and branded their DD with a label purely for free advertising.

If any of our DCs did or attempted to do the same we'd stop them and apologise.

I'm probably naive but I read it as a genuine WTF? tweet. The i mediate previous one is a pic of the Albers and Judd installations, suggesting she was a fan as well as a gallery owner.

KarmaVersusGeorgeOsbourne · 02/02/2014 10:27

I've just had a look at their clothing line- my god, it's awful. Everything is in various shades of grey, with the odd bit of black thrown in. It looks like Boden has started listening to Marilyn Manson.

Tailtwister · 02/02/2014 10:31

It's an amusing story and the way it has been reported does make the parents seem a bit of a nightmare, but I do find some of the comments here about the children really nasty.

I think it's worth remembering that things are not always fairly or accurately reported and events are often twisted. Fair enough, most people wouldn't take the same approach as these parents or make the same comments, but let's try and remember we are also talking about children here.

TSSDNCOP · 02/02/2014 10:46

It's the auntie that's at fault really, the kid should have been better supervised by the adult in charge. When the complainant pointed that out it seems the auntie then got all uppity, like people in the wrong often do.

They'll regret that pointing photo for many a year I suspect. They're not the MacCartneys FGS.

JohnnyBarthes · 02/02/2014 10:53

The parents might be irritating, but there is some prize wankery on this thread.

Competitive philistinism is uglier than pretentiousness imo. Although I did snigger a bit at ' Hoxton Trading Ltd '.

Whoever took them to the exhibition should have made sure they respected boundaries. Parents just sound sooooo irritating and the son looks like he should have a monocle and a cane.

Twattyzombiebollocks · 02/02/2014 11:06

Johnny, no competitive philistinism here. I said I had seen the same in ikea for £40 because I had. I find some modern art thought provoking, but this literally is shelves on a wall. It's not art. It's shelves. I call a spade a spade and a bag of shite a bag of shite. If that makes me a philistine then so be it, but I'm not competitive. Has any one ever read that story the emperors new clothes? I often think the world of modern art is a similar situation

LongRoadToRuin · 02/02/2014 11:28

To be honest if that 'art' was by the entrance I might think it was something to store leaflets on or tie buggys too. Several million pounds??? I'd give 'em a tenner - cash.

Still doesnt excuse the revolting response from the parents. "I'm sorry my child was a pain in the arse." would have sorted this out straight away.
