To wonder why people try and organise nights out for people from work

I've always been a bystander in organising things for nights out at work - mainly because I'm really strapped for time. But decided to step up and organise a night out but it's a thankless task, no?Grin

Can I come too?

ABitterPIL · 31/01/2014 20:33

It is a thankless task! You are never gonna please everyone so please yourself and the rest can like it or lump it....maybe this is why I dont do the xmas do....

Drquin · 31/01/2014 20:35

It is thankless, unless someone says thank-you Smile
But yes ..... Just plan whatever you think / have agreed in the full knowledge there'll be (at least) one person who can't make it, one who'll dither in committing, one who thinks it's too expensive, one who'll look down their nose at how cheap / tacky it is but loads who'll go, have a great time and (maybe) say thanks for organising!

Enjoy!

I wouldnt bother, it always seems to fall apart anyway :P Go with friends instead!

I once organised the Christmas meal and never again. Two stupid bitches in thevnext team completely spoilt it for everybody because I dared to organise a xmas tea instead of a traditional meal. I asked both teams and most agreed to want something different so I organised a xmas tea at our local posh cafe. The day before, one of the women called me up from the next office and swore at me while the other one ignored me for a year.

The best bit....apparantly both women were very committed christians and one was married to a minister but you would never tell by their behaviour!

Aspray, Confused at those women in your office for getting so het up about such a trivial thing, using up emotional energy being resentful for a whole year!!

Googlenut YANBU, but some people are motivated by it because they thrive on organising so they can be Queen Bee and centre of attention

I like having going out with co-workers. It's good to have a moderately loosened conversation every now and again.

We had those down to a fine art at work. We pick three venues and put up menus, get everyone to pick over two weeks. Then they have to give a deposit in by x date. Any late comers are sent to the restaurant to see if they can add themselves.
