e-cigarettes

AIBU to not want people to "smoke" their e-cigarettes in my house? Very few of our family or friends smoke at all and any that do, always smoke outdoors out of politeness and with no need to be asked. Two friends (a couple) have taken to "smoking" e-cigarettes over the last few months, in an attempt to give up smoking tobacco. I fully respect their decision to quit and support them as much as I can, but whereas they always used to smoke cigarettes outdoors they now believe that they can "smoke" their e-cigarettes indoors without even asking if we mind.

The issue is not so much whether these new things are more healthy than smoking tobacco or not, it's just the smell of the type of "flavour" that is used. Rather than fill the house with tobacco smoke, it's now filled with sickly sweet smells instead.

Is it just us?

Yanbu and there hasn't been any proper studies on the chemicals and safety of what's in them. And they stink

PleaseJustLeaveYourBrotherAlon · 31/01/2014 09:56

Put it this way you wouldn't go to someone's house and light up sine incense would you? Just cause its healthier

scantilymad · 31/01/2014 09:59

Yanbu. It's impolite to impose anything on a host in their home. They should have at least asked first to smoke them inside and gone outside when you refused. Can you politely ask that they "smoke" outside in future. I can't imagine anyone would be rude enough to ignore you.

I wasn't aware they smelled of anything?

I couldn't get fussed about it any more than I'd get fussed about guests wearing perfume.

But if you don't like it then tell them.

teenagetantrums · 31/01/2014 10:02

I always ask, my parents can smell them apparently so go outside there

PleaseJustLeaveYourBrotherAlon · 31/01/2014 10:08

I am not sure if all do worra but some definitely do. They are flavored my nan came and acted all whiny when I sent her outside, although tbh I'd have put up with noxious berry incense smell if I they had had FDA approval and wern't sold out of the back of shitty little shops with no regulations.

WorraLiberty · 31/01/2014 10:15

They're sold in major supermarkets too.

I'm just surprised, unless as you say some of them do.

It's just that the vapour takes seconds to disappear and I've never noticed an after smell when anyone's been vaping around me.

Thanks for your help Ladies. The couple concerned are coming to dinner tomorrow night and now that I know it's not just me (well me and my wife), I'll politely ask them to not "vape" indoors. Wish me luck! :)
