WIBU to kick this dog?

Sorry, I didn't kick a dog. I need some baking suggestions but no-one ever replies to threads asking for boring stuff, do they?

DS's school is doing a bake off and for those of you who remember, baking comes with much angst at our school. I won't be doing a lemon drizzle or cornflake cakes, though. Wink

I am going to try and do something like this as the theme is nature. But I want to do a relevant flavour of cake, but I am having a brain drain and can't think what to do.

Any suggestions gratefully received and I am sorry for tricking you into reading my thread. I can make up a story about kicking a dog if you like?

Chocolate orange, can't go wrong with that, nicer than mint which sounds odd for a cake somehow.

MinesAPintOfTea · 29/01/2014 14:32

Chocolate and Orange from Nigella's kitchen. You do get tiny bits of orange peel in it but its like eating a Terrys cake (OK its loaf-shaped but you can stick two together with a melted chocolate orange to make a square).

MarmaladeShatkins · 29/01/2014 14:33

Chocolate orange is good isn't it? Everyone likes chocolate orange...

Sparklysilversequins · 29/01/2014 14:42

Chocolate orange, definitely.

Misspixietrix · 29/01/2014 15:00

Oh I remember said thread. Marmalade I'm rooting for you! Grin.

Thumbwitch · 29/01/2014 15:07

Doesn't Nigella have a marmalade cake you can do? I'm pretty sure she does, probably in Feast or something...

Nature - daft concept for a cake. Decadence is a MUCH better concept.

Oh g'wan, update on the goss, purleeese! Grin

Theodorous · 29/01/2014 15:41

Marmalade you're a bloody legend

TheOneWithTheHair · 29/01/2014 16:11

Ok, on the nature theme, I have the perfect cake...

A chocolate cornflake cake (or deconstructed shredded wheat) nest with lemon drizzle eggs and a chocolate orange sparrow!!!

Sorted. Grin

MarmaladeShatkins · 29/01/2014 16:17

I might try and incorporate a chocolate cornflake nest into the design Grin

A precis of the goss'; LDC is back. From what I hear, she's said that her outburst was due to personal issues that she doesn't want to divulge. The chair have agreed to let her take an assistant secretary role Hmm as she has invaluable experience. The downlow is that the PTA chair just wants a quiet ride until she fucks off this September.

Thinking of a certain other thread kicking off now, why not ditch the chocolate aspect and just go orange? Call it a Nuclear Sunset theme.

I might ice CUNT onto the top. Cunts are nature, right?

OP posts:
TheOneWithTheHair · 29/01/2014 16:39

Might not go down so well with the judges. Grin

MarmaladeShatkins · 29/01/2014 17:00

I'll do it posh like on GBBO when they have to ice 'Sachertorte' or 'Opera' in joined up writing.

Carrot cake works brilliantly with sultanas and no nuts. It also works really well with dessicated coconut and no other nuts(stupid question but is coconut a "nut"?)

Misspixietrix · 29/01/2014 17:50

Melt two chocolate oranges down and mix into cake mix! You do realise you've got to win don't you. Like not just a little bit Marmalade win with little tiny cunt sprinkles on in rainbow colours. No pressure Grin.

matildamatilda · 29/01/2014 17:50

Pineapple or peach upside down cake.

Apple cobbler.

Misspixietrix · 29/01/2014 17:52

Otmaybe the squirrel pic as first post and leave one holding a tiny little lemon drizzle cake. You know? Its a coded message from your MN world .

MarmaladeShatkins · 29/01/2014 18:00

Or I could put AIBU on the tiny bunting?

OP posts:
MoominIsGoingToBeAMumWaitWHAT · 29/01/2014 18:03

you could have chocolate orange cake, with woodland creatures actually doing little chocolate cornflake cake poos onto lemon drizzle cupcakes on top?

Tasty and topical.

Misspixietrix · 29/01/2014 18:08

I LOVE Moomins suggestion. Marmalade can you stick an e-mail in there too? Grin

MarmaladeShatkins · 29/01/2014 18:53

HA HA HA HA! If I was that dextrous, I would do it!

I might make a 'dyke' too. That's nature innit? A little water feature.

OP posts:
AlpacaPicnic · 29/01/2014 19:00

Mmmm chocolate orange cake... You could grate a Terry's chocolate orange to use as 'soil'

What will you be making the squirrels out of?

FastWindow · 29/01/2014 19:03

No socks in snooker, that's a push shot. Totally allowed in RL.

MarmaladeShatkins · 29/01/2014 19:23

I'll be making the squirrels out of Schleich toys. Grin

OP posts:
Misspixietrix · 29/01/2014 19:24

Oh yes! Please put the dyke water feature in there. You could borrow a really dextrous friend and get them to do it? Then sit back and watch Lemon Drizzles her face and see if she's noticed! Grin.
