Why do people at work talk about unimportant things to me when I'm clearly busy.

If I am staring at my screen, typing, stop interrupting me. AIBU?

Depends, is dealing with these things a reasonable expectation of your job role?

sherazade · 29/01/2014 12:19

And if i'm hopping from foot to foot it means i need a piss and the five minute break i get is intended for that purpose not so i can listen to you harp on about your family/life/weekend. Yanbu.

I get this as well! I do payment runs & need to concentrate on who I'm paying, every single time without fail one woman will come & ask me a query she's had on her desk all morning.

I always have to get people out of the system so it's not like she doesn't know I'm doing one..!

Thisisaghostlyeuphemism · 29/01/2014 12:26

Are you staring at mumsnet? If so, yabu!

angelos02 · 29/01/2014 12:27

Its just general chit chat. Nothing to do with work. Is it that some people just can't read body language?

I used to sit next to one of the printers in the office. Of course that gave everyone carte blanche to stand there waiting for their printouts and 'chat' to me Angry

Yes they were just making polite conversation, yes i could have just told them i was busy but - oooohhhh Angry

mothergothel2 · 29/01/2014 12:35

Yeah OK well chit chat then fair enough. What i dont understand are people who get uppity about people asking work related questions because they feel they are "too busy". We're all busy, but your time is paid for by your employer and its part of your job to deal with these things...

angelos02 · 29/01/2014 12:48

Nah - just inane chit chat.

Is it like that little Britain sketch with the office girls Grin

DameFanny · 29/01/2014 12:53

And this is why headphones are so useful. You don't even need to be listening to anything - just gives you a really good reason to ignore them

angelos02 · 29/01/2014 12:57

It is EXACTLY like the Little Britain sketch!

They probably just hate you

HavantGuard · 29/01/2014 13:01

Headphones or earplugs work. You can still hear them but you can pretend not to and they'll eventually give up.

Only1scoop · 29/01/2014 13:12

Angelos....I've got the whole vision now...."guess how much our holiday cost....go on ....guess"
"Can I just finish this email"
Grin

angelos02 · 29/01/2014 13:23

Ubik1 I wish they did hate me...they might leave me alone then.
