How old is the debt and what's the name of the company?

Lillily · 26/01/2014 16:34

The company will go to a lot of effort to make contact.

I once had a company phone on my landline when listed in the phone book, they had gone through until they found someone living in the same street at the person who owed them money. they asked me to go and knock on the door of this neighbour, who I didn't know and give them a message to call the number( of the debt company) I didn't , but it gave me an insight to the way they go about trying to make contact, I imagine now they would use Facebook etc in the same way.

Have you applied for any credit in your current address? If you both have a phone contract, the address will be on there. Not difficult to find your number from that.

gordyslovesheep · 26/01/2014 16:45

search his name on FB - find he's in a relationship with you - visit your FB page - get the linked mobile for your page - text you?

babyjane67 · 26/01/2014 17:19

Mines alwats been on contract but his has alwats been pay as you go
So it doesnt necessarily mean he told them then?

Maybe it's not genuine? I get texts sometime from random companies trying it on. Like the 'claim for the accident you had' sort of thing when I haven't had an accident! It's possibly a coincidence. They should be contacting dh not you if it's real.
I would assume it was something dodgy, don't ring them! Could be one of those £100/minute if you call them numbers..

babyjane67 · 26/01/2014 17:49

Sorry my fault he did have that one contract on that one phone but benn pay as you go ever since!

If it's a certain company, they go all out to chase old debts...things which have expired. Don't have any truck with them. Post on money saving expert or put the name into their search engine and you will see.

babyjane67 · 27/01/2014 07:13

Ok thanks maureen will try that
So it definately doesnt mean he would have told them my no then?
I admit i am tempted just to pay the bloody thing&get it off our backs!

If he owes them 60 quid (per your op) make him pay the bloody debt.

AwfulMaureen · 28/01/2014 10:50

Baby the company I am thinking of does searches for old debts. Then tries their luck at getting them back....they could have linked you to him through various records.

JuniperHeartwand · 28/01/2014 11:11

Presume you're not married? His debt has nothing to do with you. Ignore them or if you speak to them tell them to stop harassing you.

Unexpected · 28/01/2014 11:14

I think instead of worrying about where they got your phone number from you need to get your dp to pay the debt NOW! If he had already had letters about this, he has buried his bloody head in the sand. The fact they they are now texting you suggests that the debt, which may have been £60 to start with, is probably several hundred now. Please make him pay it, particularly as you now somehow seem to be linked to it as well.
