To think M&S really shouldnt sell bras

Just pootering online and saw this minimiser bra for sale.

Not only is it far too small for the model but it is padded!

What sort of idiot dreamed up a minimiser bra -worn expressly to make a large chest look smaller -and then added padding. Unbelievable .

honey\ i hope you complained about the idiot womans comments

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/01/2014 15:19

Chocolate the problem is that they tell women to wear bras which don't fit. Now that might not bother some people but for others that actually has health implications - back and neck problems in particular never mind issues like mastitis. If they offer a fitting service I feel they should have a duty to do it properly

Backinthering · 25/01/2014 15:20

Hate them. I'm a 32E and hate that meaning I need to take the plus size range when I don't want or need a lot of scaffolding, but they have 40DDs in the regular range, which is a far bigger cup size.

PacificDogwood · 25/01/2014 15:21

"sociable nipples" Grin - they sound lovely Wink.

The last time I was measured for bras was 17 years ago when I wanted to get some wedding underwear waste of bloody time and money with hindsight: I was measured in 3 reputable shops on the same day and was given 3 different measurement, none of which were anywhere near my actual size.

Bravissimo's 'eyeing up' technique all the way since then.

I agree M+S should invest some time and money to train their staff, not stop selling bras. I am quite Envy of anybody with modest (and not too sociable) boobs who can just go and buy underwear anywhere tbh.

ihatethecold · 25/01/2014 15:21

^^ this womans talks sense.

GinOnTwoWheels · 25/01/2014 15:22

Which is probably why chocolatewombat that most women wear the wrong size Grin.

I too am a very average size (medium build, medium sized boobs), so why is the size I need (30FF/32F) right at the bottom of the available back sizes, if it is available at all (plenty start at 34, especially in a larger cup).

There are lots of women that are slimmer and/or bustier than me so where are the bras for them? Because they aren't in most 'normal' high street shops and supermarkets.

ihatethecold · 25/01/2014 15:22

statistically ia talking sense i mean.

ChocolateWombat · 25/01/2014 15:27

Fair enough. I am maybe wearing the wrong size. I am comfortable though. I know it is widely said that most women are wearing the wrong size. It seems M and S measures differently to the way many of you would like it done. All I'm saying is that I'm satisfied.

HoneyDragon · 25/01/2014 15:29

No mrsJay I did not.

I was 23 a new mum with a compete confidence knock.

I went to Debenhams cafe ordered a coffee sat at the table and cried. So the lady behind the counter brought me a slice of cake to go with my coffee, and gave me a cuddle. Smile

howrudeforme · 25/01/2014 15:30

YANBU - they don't sell bras in my size.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 25/01/2014 15:31

I buy them but would not be measured by them. I wear a 32F, since reading the bra threads on here. The good ladies at M&S would like me in a 36B

Iwannalaylikethisforever · 25/01/2014 15:35

Hate m&s bras they don't fit properly and the staff were rude about my shape. I'm not massive IMO but not small and find
Bravissimo is the best place for dd+

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 25/01/2014 15:36

M&S need to start making a lot more bras with smaller back sizes and larger cup range. And abolish the "plus four" rule they still have.

HortenMarket · 25/01/2014 17:31

I think M&S stock terrible bras! Although this could be due to my bountiful norks. I'm a 32G and get checked regularly at Rigby and Peller with the tried and tested eyeing up method, works a treat. However, periodically I do find a pretty 32G in M&S and think, perhaps they've improved their range, so I try it on, all hopeful but they always let me down. I can barely squeeze my puppies in to them! How can they be such a wrong size? The mind boggles….

RubberBullets · 25/01/2014 17:32

M&S don't do FF IIRC so their G cup is actually an FF.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 25/01/2014 17:35

I think they should be allowed to sell the. Just not be allowed to fit them

gordyslovesheep · 25/01/2014 17:37

a lot of my time is spent i1-1 with teenage boys - trust me you do not want nipples poking out in that situation - it's embarrassing for the poor sods

M+S make one style of bra that fits me really well and I have lots of them - all padded

SorrelForbes · 25/01/2014 19:22

Yep, M&S don't do an FF so their G is really an FF!.

Their fitting service is beyond rubbish (I'm a 30GG and they tried to tell me that a 38D was perfect!).

It's in their interests to keep measuring everyone incorrectly as it allows them to shoehorn people into a small range of sizes. Kerching.

Anatana · 25/01/2014 19:34

They are terrible. Just amazingly terrible. It's one of the mysteries of the world that they continue to sell bras.

Loads of their bras don't even fit in the picture. They don't know what a well fitting bra looks like! (And neither did I until MN taught me.)

Fairylea · 25/01/2014 19:37

I absolutely cannot stand bras from Marks and spencers and agree that their measuring service is just truly horrendous. I think they need to educate themselves as to how a bra should fit correctly (because just looking at them on their website shows almost all of them do not even fit the models correctly) and realise that the rib cage mmeasurement IS the back size of the bra... not add 4 inches or whatever else.

I think it's really frustrating that they seem to have a reputation for being a good place to go for bras and fittings and yet most women are probably a DD plus if fitted correctly so bravissimo should be a first choice for lots of women. However while Marks and Spencer are still fitting incorrectly people will assume they couldn't possibly fit into a DD plus bra.

And so it continues.

I am a 30GG. I have had a lifetime of being fitted into the wrong sizes. Marks and spencers have put me in a 34E many times. If you don't know what a good fit looks like it's easy to think one of their bras is ok but honestly they are awful.... no real support, straps too thin and cut it, moulded cups that squash rather than lift and under wires that always seem to minimise even if you are not wanting anything minimised.

Sorry I'm ranting. I just wish more women got properly fitted and realised what a good bra does!

Fairylea · 25/01/2014 19:39

Maybe we should send this thread to them.....

AnyFucker · 25/01/2014 19:45

I don't have a problem with M+S bras, but I do have a problem with the measuring and fitting of them

the "Runway" push up bra is great for my shape here , but I would be measured as a 34C by the fitters. I bought the 32DD and it is perfect for me.

at £17.50 you can't beat it

specialsubject · 25/01/2014 19:51

last time I tried M and S for bras the huge wall of them looked promising. Except that I want no lace, no patterns, no thick padding, underwiring (under protest..) that is properly encased and straps that are more than string width. Only B cup but hate thin straps.

add that to the fact that I want a white bra and bingo, nothing there.

the illusion of choice again...

ineedanexcuse · 25/01/2014 20:07

See, its not padding per se that I am complaining about. I understand the problem with sociable nipples Grin but its not a necessity on a bra that seeks to minimise the wearers size. Double layers with no padding will work just as well.

Sadly for a Saturday night, Im now on a mission to find a bra that has been properly fitted to the model on the M&S site Hmm
