AIBU to be able to have a bath in peace without my kids coming in and having a major "talk" with me or using the toilet to do a poo .is it just me

No it's not you. Drives me nuts.

Bunbaker · 24/01/2014 23:07

Lock the door then.

devonshiredumpling · 24/01/2014 23:14

i do not lock the door as i am on my own with the kids and want to be able to listen out for the little ones or if a had an emergency could get help easier

Dd still loves to come in for a chat as a teen. Sometimes I get a little irritated but then I remind myself that I don't want to cut off communication and that its great that she still wants to talk to me.

Shakey1500 · 24/01/2014 23:22

DS (6) insists on reading a book to me at every.single.bath.

I love hearing him read of course and he honestly thinks he's doing me a favour by keeping me company Smile

But oh, for a bath in peace!

Bunbaker · 24/01/2014 23:28

Why don't you have a bath after they have gone to bed?

Shakey1500 · 24/01/2014 23:59

For my part I like my bath early evening before DS goes to bed. Leaves my evening clear for MN rehearsals or more MN spending time with DH Grin

AlwaysDancing1234 · 25/01/2014 05:37

Sometimes I do just want peace and quiet but as the only toilet is in the bathroom sometimes DS will pop in for a wee if he is desperate. He has also been known to tip several toys in to the bath for me to play with! If I want a bath in peace I have to wait until everyone is in bed and take the baby monitor in with me so I can hear if DS wakes up.

jendot · 25/01/2014 07:45

We have 3 toilets in my house...but dh always tries to do a poo on 'my' toilet while I am in the bath! I have to lock the door to keep him out. Drives me insane!

TaurielTest · 25/01/2014 07:54

Jendot, that is revolting. Why would he do that?

I remember lots of good conversations with my parents when they were in the bath - captive audience maybe - so I don't want to shut it off all together. I am, though, trying to establish the precendent that once a week, I get the bathtub and the bathroom to myself for the duration of the Archers omnibus...

Hoppinggreen · 25/01/2014 08:10

My children can pick the lock!

DoJo · 25/01/2014 08:35

Jendot - that is seriously rude and I have no idea why you put up with it. Does he really think that the sight, sound and smell of his evacuating his bowels is something you want to share?

Marylou62 · 25/01/2014 08:49

Oh devonshiredumpling I so feel for you! But as a mum whos kids are all grown, What would I give to have those times again. I used to sneak up (DH looking after them) but they always knew! But those chats were precious. I used to pull shower curtain across a little and I only listened with half ear but the things we used to talk about. Lucky if I get a grunt now!!! It will pass and you will have a long lazy bath with no one to disturb you and you WILL wish there was a tap on the door .MUUUUM.

Mia4 · 25/01/2014 11:00

There's 4 of us sharing one bathroom at the moment - 2 couples because my friend's house is having the bathroom put in next week. We work around bathing by running the water and checking with everyone that they have been to the loo before they go in. If you do this OP and make it clear you aren't impressed-barring emergencies- if they barge in for the loo, then hopefully they'll get out of the habit.

Sadly, it is a habit, they've got used to you letting them do it. For the long chats it's a habit, probably almost ritual to them and because you are fine to let them use the loo they don't bother to sort themselves out before.

YADNBU, I get annoyed when DP chooses my time, my bathtime, to talk about things but his football time (even half time) he gets annoyed with it!

Jendot, that's really grim.

Would drive me insane as well . . Luckily, for now, I have my bath in a separate room to toilet //. Hoping to move soon though and that has bath, sink and loo in one .

Logg1e · 25/01/2014 11:48

It would drive me insane too. Luckily I live with people who respect my wishes.

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 25/01/2014 12:12

Drives me insane. I currently can't shut the door as there is no door. DH took it off to fit new bathroom tiles... in September. I miss the door!

Bunbaker · 25/01/2014 16:19

"It would drive me insane too. Luckily I live with people who respect my wishes."

Same here. I have brought DD up to respect people's privacy, as I respect hers.
