I actually don't understand why you would need Hive to control your heating at home....

While you are out making eleohants out of origami or doing football.

What's the point?

Surely you just put it on the timer?

On gong I have so nearly posted this so many times. I shout this at dh/ dcs/ tv ALL the time Grin

SpocksThirdEar · 24/01/2014 21:52

Yes. DH says the same, and he's a heating engineer. I just put the heating on when I come in if it's cold. Or stick a jumper on and save money!

BreconBeBuggered · 24/01/2014 21:53

Maybe your dog has texted you to say he's a bit chilly and could you whack the thermostat up a couple of notches?

No, I don't get it either.

Catsmamma · 24/01/2014 21:54

yes...me too

err....you have the timer and set it accordingly or just press the ON button if you are not warm enough

unless you are irretrievably dense.

bisjo · 24/01/2014 21:54

It is because you lead such a fun-filled and exciting life that you can never possibly know when you will be home and therefore you can never possibly plan your heating requirements in advance Grin

MajesticWhine · 24/01/2014 21:54

I guess if you go on holiday and forget to turn the heating down? Or maybe you are coming back from a weekend away, and you want to turn the heating on 1 hour in advance of your return home. But yes, it is not essential.

AtYourCervix · 24/01/2014 21:54

How much did that ad cost?

And Really? What is the point? I feel I have mussed something.

IneedAwittierNickname · 24/01/2014 21:56

I don't understand the point, but the song is catchy. My 7 year old sings it constantly

AtYourCervix · 24/01/2014 21:56

Oh. It's for the spontaneous weekend mini-break types.

Byt even then.... don't you just crank it up when you get in? It's not like the UK is -25 or anything.

OP posts:
Damnautocorrect · 24/01/2014 21:57

I like the song

SanityClause · 24/01/2014 21:57

Yes, what is that about?

Why is it so different to a timer or a thermostat?

Mintyy · 24/01/2014 22:00

Yanbu. It is an invention for the terminally stupid or lazy.

dementedma · 24/01/2014 22:01

Ds loves the song and sings it endlessly along with Fun ways to die - that Australian train safety song.. Do not Google this unless you want it in your head for ever!!!

Genius lyrics!!!!!!

Back2Basics · 24/01/2014 22:03

I suppose it would be nice to turn it up half hour before you get home.

I have storage heaters so have. I idea about gch!

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 24/01/2014 22:03

Oh good, it's not just me who doesn't understand.

UsingMyRedPen · 24/01/2014 22:05

thread title really made me laugh - i think this every time that stupid fucking advert comes on!

LondonBus · 24/01/2014 22:06

I haven't seen the ad- but I want to be able to to this! Where do I sign up?

LucyBabs · 24/01/2014 22:07

Huh?! Please fill me in, I feel left out. Wah Sad

CajaDeLaMemoria · 24/01/2014 22:07

Meh, I like the idea, and the advert.

Arthritis makes it difficult for me to move if it's cold. If I could turn the heating on 15 minutes before I got home, I could be more accurate than setting a timer and hoping for the best. I never know when I'll be back.

I get cold really easily, though, and take ages to recover. A jumper wouldn't help me!

OddFodd · 24/01/2014 22:10

Heating is fairly low down on the list of priorities when I rush in. The ability to teleport the loo nearer the front door (my pelvic floor not being what it was) and to boil the kettle for a cup of tea would be a lot more welcome than cranking the rads up a notch

Pixel · 24/01/2014 22:19

Dh is driving me mad with his ranting every time this comes on, "why do you want your heating on when you are out?"
But then we rarely have the heating on even when we are in, it's too expensive!

EduCated · 24/01/2014 22:27

I quite like the idea, but put it quite high up in the luxury category, given the very small number of times it would have been quite nice to have popped the heating on so it was warm when I got home.

But I'd probably only ever forget to do it anyway. Or my phone would be dead. It's a bit gimmicky.

bruffin · 24/01/2014 22:58

We had a new boiler last year with hive and we love it.

Meant to say its not just about setting the heating from your phone. You can set the thermostat to change during the day so over night at 16 then 18 in the morning, go back to 16 when we are out at work. You can have different schedule for each day. The whole thing is run from your pc but you can turn the temperate up/down from thermostat.
