to think a teacher shouldn't comment about their pupils on fb?

Just that really.

And I'm talking about every kind of situation.

I deal with customers every single day - some are lovely and some even wish death on you, but I would never comment about them (or colleagues for that matter) even if I never mentioned their name over FB.

YANBU at all.

TheNightIsDark · 24/01/2014 21:27

YANBU. At all. what did it say?

Patchouli · 24/01/2014 21:28

School teacher?

bodygoingsouth · 24/01/2014 21:29

er they don't.

BabyMummy29 · 24/01/2014 21:29

YANBU That is totally out of order. We are told not to make any reference to out work on FB whatsoever.

Yes a school teacher (primary)

It's generally just posting about conversation she had with pupils. But sometimes other things too.

I feel uncomfortable reading it tbh.

Of course they shouldn't. Unless in a very general way, for example, 'great day, one of my students read a whole book on his own for the first time'.

echt · 24/01/2014 21:31

YANBU. I'm a teacher, and not on Facebook. Even so, I'm very careful what I say about my school on MN. In fact I change my name to post anything that could even vaguely identify my school with me.

The idea of what is effectively gossiping about people in this way is unprofessional and I believe the teacher could be in very hot water of this came to the attention of their school.

Alisvolatpropiis · 24/01/2014 21:31

Yanbu.

"Had a shit day" or similar is fine.

Commenting specifically may well get them sacked, as it might any other person working any other job.

BobPatSamandIgglePiggle · 24/01/2014 21:34

Yanbu. I work in FE - a colleague was sacked for gross misconduct for slagging off students on fb.

DieDeutschLehrerin · 24/01/2014 21:38

No, a colleague was disciplined for doing exactly what you describe.

BronzeHorseman · 24/01/2014 21:41

Saying "Had a shit day" is a 'discussion with the boss' misdemeanor where I work, and where a couple of teacher friends work.

Amy106 · 24/01/2014 21:41

YANBU at all.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 24/01/2014 21:42

I don't even do "I've had a shit day" after a staff room shit storm from a negative colleague. Weather and kittens only. Talk about kids, professional misconduct.

ThreeBeeOneGee · 24/01/2014 21:42

Do you mean that she has referred to them by name?

Or more of a general "One of my Y7s said the funniest thing today"?

Cactuar · 24/01/2014 21:42

Hello. I love everyone xxx

Alisvolatpropiis · 24/01/2014 21:45

Ohwhat

I wouldn't write that kind of status either, not a teacher, but I think anyone could get away with that kind of status. Much like you I stick to non-personal status updates.

BabyMummy29 · 24/01/2014 21:46

We were told not to even write "Had a great day at work" cos it could suggest that other days weren't good.

Crowler · 24/01/2014 21:49

YANBU. Honestly, I think it's a bit weird when teachers get involved in social media. The students will inevitably find it and it's got to be beyond reproach, so why bother?

TheNightIsDark · 24/01/2014 21:49

I can't even link my work to my fb profile let alone mention anything

amyshellfish · 24/01/2014 21:50

If I was a teacher I'd make sure I didn't have parents on my friends list.

Alisvolatpropiis · 24/01/2014 21:51

Teachers should all have anonymous twitter accounts for their rants...

Hassled · 24/01/2014 21:52

The code of conduct she will almost certainly have signed would/should have a reference to social media. She could well be in a whole heap of shit - it's probably worth a quiet word.

CrohnicallyFarting · 24/01/2014 21:52

Saying things about specific pupils, even if those pupils aren't named or identified, is not on.

However, things like 'I've had a shit day'- why on earth wouldn't it be allowed? How dare the school assume that everything teachers write is about the school? Teachers do have a life. Outside of work, you know. Maybe their car broke down, budgie died and they got home to find DH had drunk all the wine. Nothing to do with work at all.
