to ask about your 34C boobs?

So I'm considering a breast reduction and surgeons generally recommend a C cup size. I haven't been a C cup since puberty and I can't imagine it at all! Anyone who's a 34C - I'd really appreciate some info :-)

For example....
Do you feel completely secure in a strapless bra, or can you even go braless occasionally? (on holiday or if a special outfit demands?)
Is it easy to find flattering swimwear?
Can you wear shrug-type cardigans and do they look nice?

I'm pretty tall, no hips but a bit of a muffin-top - is my tummy suddenly going to be bigger than my boobs? I'm used to being voluptuous, but part of me wants the novelty of a boyish figure. Is this a nice compromise or a neither-here-nor-there middle ground?

All advice gratefully received!

What do you measure bertie? ?If you are very slender you sometimes need one band size higher but not always. I suspect that you just haven't found the right bra yet. Let me know what you measure and roughly what shape your boobs are and I'll suggest some options. It should be firm but that doesn't sound right however it could be a cup size issue as if the cup is too small it pulls the band and makes it feel artificially tight.

Try it back to front to see how the band feels in isolation

34C is more likely on a woman who is size 12-14 and is relatively flat-chested.

I think what OP and a lot of posters here think is a 34C is in reality more like a 30E or 30F.

BertieBottsJustGotMarried · 25/01/2014 12:30

I'll have to get hold of a tape measure, because I don't have a soft one at the moment (only a metal one). From memory I was about 27 and 30. Estimating with one of DS' belts and a ruler I'm now 29 and 31. That may be easier!

BertieBottsJustGotMarried · 25/01/2014 12:32

I have no idea what shape my boobs are. Sort of rounded at the bottom and flat from the front. Fairly perky? Totally flat (like a man's chest) if I lie on my back or lean back.

Pigsmummy · 25/01/2014 12:37

I am 34c and would love to be 34d. I think mine look smaller as I am broad. Broad shoulders and tall.

I have gone bra less but not for a long time, aged 39. If I needed to run I would be holding them. Swimming fine. Bit of cleavage but not a lot.

IfNotNowThenWhen · 25/01/2014 12:38

I used to wear a 34 c, until I went to Debenhams and tried on ever size going, and realised I was a 32 E ! ( Just checked with the guide AF posted and it's spot on).
But anyway, OP, like having averagey sized breasts because I can choose to hide them in a baggy top or wop 'em out in a cleavagey dress.

Pigsmummy · 25/01/2014 12:38

I agree that 34c is a 12-14 too. 10-12 would be too tight on bust.
, 14-16 too big

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/01/2014 12:41

I'm a 14-16 and a 30 back. It's not an exact relationship-an hourglass with a small waist will generally wear a smaller back size than an apple even though they might both be 14s. I'd actually say most 34s are more like a 16+ ime

zizzo · 25/01/2014 12:43

I'm a 28DD which may sound huge but actually equates to being tiiiny in terms of volume. Barely a handful! They're right for my frame though as I'd look a bit daft with anything bigger than a 6-inch difference on my small ribs.

Correctly-fitted DD breasts are not as large as The Sun would make them out to be Grin

AnyFucker · 25/01/2014 13:25

It makes me laugh when you see people like Jordan/ glamour models etc described as "busty DD's". They are waaaaaay bigger cup sizes than that.

ouryve · 25/01/2014 13:33

Bertie - if you have a piece of string or ribbon handy, you can use that and measure it against the metal tape measure.

IrishBloodEnglishHeart · 25/01/2014 13:44

Hello OP. If you check out the 10 Years Younger programme on 4OD, in series 3 Episode 9, the candidate gets a breast reduction and lift. She had lost a lot of weight taking her from a J cup to a vert droopy G cup to begin with. The programme then shows her breast operation and post surgery she was measured (properly) as a 34E which looks really good on her. She looks a bit taller than you and so it may not be an ideal comparison but it was really interesting to watch.

InvaderZim · 25/01/2014 13:59

I am a 34D (5'8" and very large ribcage), and I wish my boobs were bigger. They are wide set and I never have cleavage in any sort of bra. On the other hand, I can buy clothing off the rack, and when I run I can really strap these suckers down.

I loved being pregnant and going up to a 38F; I had great cleavage then, but I was also pretty fat (for me). For my body size I would prefer to be a 34dd or e.

Hope that helps.

enriquetheringbearinglizard · 25/01/2014 20:38

I still maintain that any cosmetic surgeon worth their salt will look at the patient and talk about what's best for them not talk in standard sizes, which mean absolutely nothing without taking everything else into account.
I wouldn't go near any surgeon who just said yes to any request.

Would you go to a hairdresser who agreed to do any cut or colour regardless of your hair texture, skin tone or face shape? and a disastrous hairstyle is far easier to correct.

LightastheBreeze · 25/01/2014 20:48

I'm 34c and tall. I do look fairly flat chested but find it easy to buy bras swimsuits etc. I would like to be a bit bigger but my chest is not really noticeable and not something I really think about. If you are a large size 34c is quite small. I am size 12- 14

I was for many years a 32 A cup and loved it. Am now a 34D and hate, hate, hate it. I couldn't imagine not wearing an underwired substantial bra to hold everything in place. Not a C obviously but I can occasionally get a c to fit but still feel huge. I wish they made minimisers in that size.

SorrelForbes · 26/01/2014 00:36

Sounds like a style issue to me as a 34 should not be right for someone measuring 30.

Wide set bras often need shallower, wider wires. The Cleo Juna, Curvy Kate balconettes and the tutti gritting range night work.

ThisIsMyRealName · 26/01/2014 01:00

I've not read the whole thread 2nd time i've said that today

But having read the first page i am Shock Shock at 34C being described as 'boyish'!!

I am a 32A (and around 5,10") and consider a 34C pretty voluptuous Blush Talk about feeling inadequate Sad

I am very jealous of the OP but I don't suppose that's any comfort...

Good luck with any surgery you decide to have though Smile

JapaneseMargaret · 26/01/2014 02:24

Have you had a bra intervention, ThisIsMyRealName?

If not, then I seriously doubt you are actually a 32A.

Beaverfeaver · 26/01/2014 05:40

I'm 5ft 4 with 34c.

They are fine, but I always thought they were too small for me.
I can't go braless. Just going down the stairs is enough to put me off doing that.

LightastheBreeze · 26/01/2014 05:41

I have got a big rib cage, 34c here and measure 33 under and am tall, broad shouldered and look fairly flat chested.

LightastheBreeze · 26/01/2014 06:00

I used to be 36B (M & S) but after remeasuring have settled on 34C as 32 is too tight. Still buy from M & S as I like there comfy T shirt bras but don't get measured and buy off peg.
