to ask about your 34C boobs?

So I'm considering a breast reduction and surgeons generally recommend a C cup size. I haven't been a C cup since puberty and I can't imagine it at all! Anyone who's a 34C - I'd really appreciate some info :-)

For example....
Do you feel completely secure in a strapless bra, or can you even go braless occasionally? (on holiday or if a special outfit demands?)
Is it easy to find flattering swimwear?
Can you wear shrug-type cardigans and do they look nice?

I'm pretty tall, no hips but a bit of a muffin-top - is my tummy suddenly going to be bigger than my boobs? I'm used to being voluptuous, but part of me wants the novelty of a boyish figure. Is this a nice compromise or a neither-here-nor-there middle ground?

All advice gratefully received!

I have ALWAYS wanted smaller boobies . Back in the 80s those vest tops were popular but I could never wear one even with a strapless bra .. I am 34DD but when I diet the first place I lose is there .. .

TeWiSavesTheDay · 24/01/2014 15:01

It's q tricky question, because you need to clarify with the surgeon exactly what he means or end up with a shock!

I agree with the others That a true 34c would be much smaller than most people would expect. Possibly at that stage you would fine clothes too large across the chest.

gingermop · 24/01/2014 15:02

im a 34c, not to big, not to small and can go bra less x

SnoozyGiraffe · 24/01/2014 15:44

Thanks for the input, everyone! It seems like a sensible size Smile

I've had a mastectomy due to breast cancer. IMO if your boobs are healthy, leave 'em be & remember, get ANY lumps & bumps checked out!

Whathaveiforgottentoday · 24/01/2014 16:53

I almost went down this route. Got funding etc from NHS but backed out as couldn't really justify putting myself through this type of operation.

However, I would have gone down to a C cup otherwise doesn't really seem worth it. I'm a 34 J so totally understand where you are coming from although the clincher for me was that I would find it strange if I didn't have big boobs - kind of like I would lose part of my identity (although hardly your stereotype big boobed women).
I was looking into for health reasons (lower back pain).

Quinteszilla · 24/01/2014 17:00

With a 34C I think you will very soon realize you need to do something about your muffin top. I am 36c, and my muffin top require lose shirts, a scarf, to make me NOT feel that my tummy is "in the way". I am a size 16.

harticus · 24/01/2014 17:16

I am with Rudolph - leave healthy breast tissue alone unless you are suffering back or shoulder problems from carrying too much weight.

Cancer got both my breasts and so I am totally flat chested after bilateral mastectomies without any reconstruction.
I love being flat and no I don't feel like a bloke.
I can run and exercise easily now and I save a fortune on bras.
I started out at AA in my teens (when I was modelling) and went up to D cup after babies.
Hated having boobs so I am happy to be back where I started and to be rid of my fugly pendulous jugs.
I recognise this is the extreme end of what you were enquiring about Snoozy - but I get bored of hearing how "all women" hanker after giant tits.

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/01/2014 17:42

You know, if you don't like hearing how "all women hanker after giant tits" then maybe it should occur to you that describing D cups as "fugly pendulous jugs" when there are plenty women on this thread with a lot bigger than D cups is also offensive?

Back2Basics · 24/01/2014 17:48

I'm a 34c and I love my boobs. So glad they're not huge to give me back ache but I do have enough that's slightly more then a handful.

When they were bigger (they have shrunk after dc) I couldn't wear loads of tops as I looked huge and matronly but now there's not a lot I can't wear. I still wear swimming costumes with inbuilt bras ect as they're not that small but yes I regularly take off my bra when I come home or go all day if at home without a bra and it feels lush.

Joysmum · 24/01/2014 17:54

Whilst I sympathise with the ladies who have had cancer, I disagree.

I had corrective surgery due to having had a couple of procedures on a non cancerous lump which left me horribly lopsided. Combined with this I'd lost 6.5 stone and was left with empty sacks as a result.

I'd always been a small B cup even at my heaviest, I'm 5'8" btw, so never had much of a bust, but the combination of my weightloss and lopsidedness left me horribly self conscious. I had to have the light off during sex and didn't like my husband to see me nude.

I had the lopsidedness fixed and chose to go slightly larger, at a full B cup/small C cup. It was the best decision I ever made. I'm no longer self conscious and feel confidently me again.

To anybody considering either augmentation, or reduction, please be very aware of what the side affects are. There will most likely be changes in sensation or loss of sensation. It's not an easy option and breast reduction is, from my understanding, a more complicated surgery than augmentation and that was difficult enough. Added to that are the mental issues too. Even doing something for self improvement can leave you needing to come to terms with being different, and society always has an opinion on your decision for cosmetic surgery with those of us who have had it being ridiculed, told we are shallow and fake etc.

Think carefully, find a good surgeon, take time to make your decision and consider if life is better for you now, or with the size you want but with the downsides of side effects.

ChrisTheSheep · 24/01/2014 18:19

Like StatisticallyChallenged's friend, I had a reduction: I was a 30FF/G at the time, and surgeon assured me I'd end up a B cup. In the end, the smallest I was was a DD, which drifted back up to an E (it was still more manageable than what it had been, but not exactly small).

When I went back for a check, surgeon asked me what size bra I was now wearing, and was aghast when I said a 32DD (back size readjusted a bit 2). I seem to remember him saying, "But we took at least 2lb of tissue out of each breast?!" in an aghast manner. I wonder whether breast reduction surgeons have gone to the same school of measurement as the M&S bra fitters?

ChrisTheSheep · 24/01/2014 18:20

I meant "adjusted a bit too" - apologies for that!

Whathaveiforgottentoday · 24/01/2014 19:31

Joysmum. by your description of how you felt, totally understandable you opted for the surgery

Op I second what Joysmum says in that you should take your time deciding and consider the pros and cons carefully. It took me 5 months to make my decision and I must of changed my decision almost daily. My reasons for wanting a reduction were to relieve my back problem but as its a lower back problem both the consultant and osteopath said it is likely to make no difference at all. If I had upper back problems or psychological concerns, my decision would have been different.

I also spoke to a number of people who had had the surgery and some were pleased but not all are pleased with the surgery and one in particular has ended up back at the same size.

AnyFucker · 24/01/2014 19:43

I have a boyish figure and wear a 32dd after years of a 34b. It's a good size for me.

Lots of people on this thread are wearing the wrong size. Stat will sort you out.

OP, the surgeons talking about cup sizes have most likely got it waaaaay off

Fairylea · 24/01/2014 19:44

A c Cup is relative to back size. A 30C is quite a small bra size, whereas a 38c is larger in the cup size. .. so all c cups are not equal! - see bra intervention threads anyone that is curious.

I am a size 12-14 and I am a 30GG (measured as per threads here and then fitted at bravissimo) and I really don't have huge boobs! Personally I couldn't imagine going down to a c Cup and I feel my boobs help to balance out my large hips.

However I guess everyone is different and it really does depend on your body shape etc.

I have yet to meet a woman who is a size 8/10 who is wearing a 32/34 back bra and who isn't in the wrong size! (Most likely should be in a 28/30 back).

AnyFucker · 24/01/2014 19:53

Fairy, I am a size 10/12 but am talk and broad shouldered

I find a 32 back is the smallest I can wear

AnyFucker · 24/01/2014 19:53

Tall

EmmaBemma · 24/01/2014 19:59

I had a breast reduction. I don't think you can guarantee a cup size, it really depends on the shape of your breasts - how wide their "base" is, if you see what I mean. If you take away too much tissue, they can look weird and you can't put it back. I started off a 34G, wanted a C cup and ended up with a DD cup - now 34D after children - and I felt much more in proportion, and still do.

Yes, you do suddenly notice your tummy, however!

harticus · 24/01/2014 20:04

StatisticallyChallenged

Oh FFS some people just cruise around this forum trying to find reasons to be offended.
Did I refer to all D cup sized tits?
No I did not.

I was not talking about anyone else's tits but my OWN - or rather the ones I used to have. My own. Mine.

MY large saggy post-bf tits were fucking ugly (and, as it turned out, cancerous.)

I was merely putting the point that not everyone on the planet has or wants to have large breasts.

Although I do advise against getting cancer as a way of reducing them.

KareKare · 24/01/2014 20:08

Mine were 32c until some sort of mental hormonal surge has recently made them 32DD.

A C cup is perfect to me, not too small, not too big. I could easily go braless & could have great cleavage if I so wanted it.

I hate having bigger boobs & am desperate to get my C cup back.

PiperRose · 24/01/2014 20:34

Hi I'm currently a 36D. I had a breast reduction from a 32H to a c cup, but then they settled into a D and I'm more than happy. If you have any questions about the operation feel free to ask, either on here (I'm not shy) or message me.

singaporefling · 24/01/2014 20:49

I went from 36f to 34c - life changing in THE most positive ways imaginable! The op wasnt particularly painful - just felt like i had a "headache" across my chest, a couple of days being sore but up and about, driving after 3 weeks and able to wear almost ANYTHING confidently/comfortably....

mizu · 24/01/2014 20:50

5 ft 7" size 10ish and am M & S 34C. Love my boobs and like others have said on here, not too big and not too small. Have never had to think about them really, they get a bit bigger and firmer the week before my period. Otherwise, after two kids, think they are not quite as perky as before but a great size to be Grin

AnyFucker · 24/01/2014 20:55

Mizu, without even seeing you I reckon you are really a 32DD or even 30E
