With so many animals who can't find a good home wtf are people doing breeding more of them?

I personally believe many issues can be solved if it were mandatory to have a license for breeding yet more animals.

I think Joysmum is differentiating between pet owners and breeders of Pedigree dogs/cats bzoo.

with you 100% - drives me mad - so many poor sad unwanted animals in shelters - and that includes pedigrees too. Breeders should have a licence and should prove their animals are looked after well and have a happy healthy life.

Obviously is only ordinary dogs. They aren't adding anything to the breed by breeding more ordinary dogs. Two excellent specimens that are health tested and bred by careful, responsible breeders for one or two litters fine. Average family dogs being bred because 'they are so lovely' is not helpful. Look at the rescues.

Breeding for pedigree should be banned as well, imo. Far too many dogs are being cross-bred into unhealthy animals. It sometimes seems that the better the pedigree the more unhealthy the dog.

If people stopped buying from kitchen breeders this point would be moot,
While someone is willing to say they want a "Labrachoucollie" someone will fill the market,
If you want a dog any dog in a rescue will welcome you, as for knowing how they are will dc, no dog should be left alone with dc, as they get to know you you will be able to judge better!
In conclusion don't encourage breeding, get a nice mutt from the pound, put in some time, effort and affection...

YANBU. My dd's friend has a cat who has had at least 2 litters a year for the last 6 years. The parents are educated, well off enough to afford to spay her, intelligent and articulate.

It baffles me why they don't take her to be spayed. Idiots.

Sorry just read back, breeders also should be held to account, collies were in fashion here a few years ago, they now languish in shelters. They are lively intelligent dogs who need a lot of exercise, why would you breed these to sell to a working mum of four with very little time or garden?

YANBU. Our neighbours thought it would be a real money spinner letting their two mutts breed. They had nine puppies, had no good homes lined up, and ended up getting rid of them on eBay. And they've kept two, so now they have four dogs who never get walked and spend all day barking.

There's enough Heinz 57's out there who have been bred without thought as to how the patents compliment each other to make a good cross.

Why the hell don't more people go to animal shelters rather than backyard breeders if they want a pet? If the demand isn't there then less would be inclined to do it.

I agree 101% people should have to be licensed to breed animals, it would certainly help squash puppy farming. My cat was spayed the minute she was old enough.
