Serious friday night drama in our house:
Brought some 90" drop curtains for the French door in living room which aren't quite long enough.
They come to top if the skirting boards about 4" off floor I think they look ridiculous he disagrees whose is right please?
Curtains should be touching floor no?

For French doors they should touch the floor

Beavie · 17/01/2014 21:21

Yanbu

Fairylea · 17/01/2014 21:22

You are right. He is wrong. :)

WitchWay · 17/01/2014 21:22

Agree with you - touching or very nearly touching - mine are about 2mm off the floor

Can you alter the hooks at the top? - sometimes the tape has more than one set of hoops

DontCallMeDaughter · 17/01/2014 21:23

4" is too much. You need to return them.

Tweasels · 17/01/2014 21:23

Always should touch the floor. You are right.

DameDeepRedBetty · 17/01/2014 21:23

Yanbu up to the point where you ended your sentence with 'no?'

I have now got The Rage and will have to agree with your OH on principle.

If you'd started this in Chat you could have posted a photo of course.

Just sayin'.

enriquetheringbearinglizard · 17/01/2014 21:23

They need to touch the floor, no question.

Either they go back or you sew something suitable across the bottom.

ISeeYouShiverWithAntici · 17/01/2014 21:23

4 inches? You are right. That would look ridiculous.

MrsBungle · 17/01/2014 21:25

You are right, he is wrong. My dh would also think this is ok!

bamboobutton · 17/01/2014 21:25

You're right, it'll look shit.

Trills · 17/01/2014 21:26

Not necessarily touching, but not 4 inches off.

PrimalLass · 17/01/2014 21:26

You are right. Ikea and La Redoute do longer curtains.

SparklyTwinkleGlitter · 17/01/2014 21:26

They're just curtains. Does it really matter? Confused

WitchWay · 17/01/2014 21:27

It does matter!! This would drive me berserk!

justmyview · 17/01/2014 21:27

I bought curtains too short - thought I'd live with it and it would be OK. Irritated me every day for 10 years until I moved out

Annianni · 17/01/2014 21:29

You are right. He is wrong.

MrsKoala · 17/01/2014 21:30

you are right.

Sparrowlegs248 · 17/01/2014 21:42

Jesus. Curtain shopping is enough for a war to break out between DH and me. My mother has french doors. Her curtains are about 9" or more longer than the floor iyswim. So there is curtain fanned out on the floor. That the cat sleeps on. DH thinks this looks ridiculous. I don't much care.

I don't know.

bumbumsmummy · 17/01/2014 21:43

Yanbu

LuisSuarezTeeth · 17/01/2014 21:44

Floor length. He is wrong. YANBU with header tape on. Grin

promote · 17/01/2014 21:45

yanbu they have to be floor length or longer .

Snatchoo · 17/01/2014 21:45

Yanbu. Can you sew a panel along the bottom? They do it all the time on Pinterest Grin

breatheslowly · 17/01/2014 21:50

YANBU. How much above the door is the track/pole? Could it be lowered by 4 inches without looking stupid?

NearTheWindmill · 17/01/2014 21:53

have you measured them? If they are less than 90" you will be able to get a refund or an exchange. Sadly if they measure 90" you will have mismeasured the drop and not allowed for the the fact that the measurement is taken from top to bottom of the curtain and you have to allow for where you put the hook in the header.

If the header has three rows, which they often do, can you adjust the hook to the very top row and does than look better (if you haven't done that already).

You don't sew something along the bottom of a curtain btw, you cut off the header and add from the top. If you can't do this yourself, this will cost at least £50 per drop unfortunately so probably about £200 so it depends on the value of the curtains.

If the curtains are ready made and from a high street shop, you should be able to fold neatly and repack and return them; if you have had them made to your measurements I think you might have to suck it up.

Oh dear.
