Serious friday night drama in our house:
Brought some 90" drop curtains for the French door in living room which aren't quite long enough.
They come to top if the skirting boards about 4" off floor I think they look ridiculous he disagrees whose is right please?
Curtains should be touching floor no?

How big is the hem? If you put the hooks onto the top bit of the tape and redo the hem would they touch the floor?

ExitPursuedByTheRoyalPrude · 17/01/2014 21:59

Floor or nothing.

squoosh · 17/01/2014 22:03

You are married to a barbarian. Floor length with a bit to spare is the only tolerable curtain length.

Curtains that are too short remind me of this.

MammaTJ · 17/01/2014 22:07

How serious is the drama?

I have worked in a curtain shop, so can deal with this, but it is low on priorities!

NearTheWindmill · 17/01/2014 22:10

If all else fails can you have them shortened for a bedroom window?

IneedAsockamnesty · 17/01/2014 22:11

He is wrong, your neighbours will laugh at you

Bluemonkeyspots · 17/01/2014 22:11

You're right!

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/01/2014 22:19

He is wrong (used to work in a curtain/fabric shop too)

I hate too short/half mast curtains

gordyslovesheep · 17/01/2014 22:20

he is wrong and it would make my brain itch looking at the 4" gap

Moln · 17/01/2014 22:20

4 inches of the floor isn't long enough or short enough for curtains.

You are right. He is wrong.

namechange74 · 17/01/2014 22:24

curtains must touch the floor!! tell him he's a dufus.

Finola1step · 17/01/2014 22:25

He is wrong. They need to be floor length to block out draughts from the bottom of the doors. Saves you money in the long run.

But YABU to add no to the end of your sentence. Grin

WilsonFrickett · 17/01/2014 22:28

He is wrong. Can you return them? Tell me you haven't cut the gather cords? If I was Kirstie Allsop I'd tell you to add a panel. But I have no fucking clue if that's an actual thing...

NickyNackyNooNoo · 17/01/2014 22:32

He is Mr Wrong from Wrongsville, curtains have to 'puddle' on the floor obviously. Sheesh the man has no style Wink

BillyBanter · 17/01/2014 22:39

I'm not sure I care, though I think perhaps I should seeing as feelings are running very high on the thread.

Can I see a picture please?

edwinbear · 17/01/2014 22:40

YANBU. I took made to measure curtains back once because they were 1cm shorter than I had ordered. They looked daft. As will yours if they are 4" off the floor. If your OH is anything like mine, he is saying they are fine because he can't be bothered with the whole return thing and wants an easy life. Little does he know that if they don't get exchanged, you will have the right to bring them up in every row you ever have for the next 10 years and therefore his life will actually be far easier if they go back.

MrsSteptoe · 17/01/2014 22:43

You're right. He's wrong. If you can't return them, either add a contrast hem or a contrast top (which obviously means unpicking and reattaching the curtain tape )

Andro · 17/01/2014 22:53

They should be touching the floor.

moppymarker · 17/01/2014 22:53

90 inch drop is a standadr drop. is it worth the expense
of bespoke curtains?

SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 17/01/2014 23:01

You're right. They'll look hideous.

twerkyswizzler · 17/01/2014 23:11

YANBU, LTB

Wishfulmakeupping · 17/01/2014 23:18

The curtains are patterned and match the curtains for the bay window other end of room. We could get another 2" if we have them took down which we will get done Tomo but if we add another panel in we need to do same with the ones for other end of room Iyswim.
Curtains are eyelet ones and not enough material at top to move them down.
Can't take them back either so would need to buy new curtains for the French door and bay window which I could do but I'm tight

Have just looked and mine are about 8 inches of the floor lol have never even noticed before haha

Quoteunquote · 17/01/2014 23:33

They have to touch the floor, or when psycho killer with a machete hides behind them you see his feet sticking out.
