People chewing gym look terrible. It makes a hideous mess when left on the pavement. I wish it didn't exist.

And the noise they make chewing it. Aargh! I'm right there with you on this one. Should be banned.

TempusFuckit · 17/01/2014 15:29

I found some freshly chewed gum lovingly hidden in the play dough at toddler group this morning. Umm.

YANBU. But it is very low down on my lengthy personal shitlist.

magimedi · 17/01/2014 15:29

I totally agree with you. I would ban it like a shot, outside of the privacy of your own home.

TerrorAustralis · 17/01/2014 15:37

YANBU. We hates it.

Cannot stand seeing people chew gum with their mouths open. If it's not acceptable to chew food with your mouth open, why would it be OK to chew gum so that the world can see your tonsils?

LittleBabyPigsus · 17/01/2014 15:41

I never leave the house without chewing gum, but I always bin it (wrapped up in an old bus ticket or other bit of paper) and always chew with my mouth closed.

DidoTheDodo · 17/01/2014 15:44

I chew gum a lot. It cleans my teeth after lunch (at work) and stops me eating other things.

I always dispose of it properly and would never chew it anywhere where it mattered!

I vote for keeping it.

CruCru · 17/01/2014 15:44

I find it weird when people think it's okay to chew in the office. I was showing a colleague something on the computer and he was chewing in my sodding ear. Ewwwww.

GlitzAndGiggles · 17/01/2014 15:46

I hate the sound! I hate the sound of people eating with their mouth open anyway. I do however chew gum with my mouth shut and dispose of it properly

HesterShaw · 17/01/2014 15:46

YANBU. It is VILE

Agree with the mouth open thing...fucking grim. And as for the chu-chu-chu-chu noise as they chomp away. God!

bananananacoconuts · 17/01/2014 15:48

This is the thread for me! I DETEST chewing gum with a passion. Revolting stuff

kreecherlivesupstairs · 17/01/2014 16:00

Me too. It is filth. OTOH, DD was advised to chew gum frequently with an open mouth (along with blowing balloons up with her nose) to help with glue ear.
It was the longest five months of my life and she ended up with grommets anyway.

MadAsFish · 17/01/2014 21:25

Absolutely agree. Loathe it - the chewing noise, how it makes people look bovine, and being left bloody everywhere.

Wuxiapian · 17/01/2014 21:27

I chew. Mouth closed. And, always dispose of it properly.

WitchWay · 17/01/2014 21:43

It's the open mouth chewing that I hate - bleurgh Angry

greenbananas · 17/01/2014 21:51

There is blobs of the vile stuff all over the pavement in the street where I live. This is a scruffy and run down area anyway, and the chewing gum makes it look ten times worse, like people have no pride in the place at all.

I know some people chew it responsibly (with their mouths closed) but I think spitting it on the street should have the same penalties as any other mindless vandalism.

treaclesoda · 17/01/2014 21:56

hate it too. The noise, the sticky crap stuck to your shoe, urgh.

squoosh · 17/01/2014 21:58

Hate the manky stuff.

Hate the vacant faced, lip smacking, jaw grinding, bovine cud chewing.

ThreeBeeOneGee · 17/01/2014 22:03

Chewing gum shouldn't be done in public. You don't brush your teeth in the office or on a train platform.

I find it so disgusting to look at / listen to. If someone is trying to speak to me while they are chewing gum, I am not really taking in what they are saying.

So I don't think it needs to be banned so long as nobody chews it where I have to see them or hear them.

MrsGrasshead · 17/01/2014 22:03

I chew a lot. And dispose of properly. It has a laxative effect and helps my ibs. Other "laxatives"cause me bloating and agonising pain.

Sallyingforth · 17/01/2014 22:04

Chewing gum is actually illegal in Singapore. We should follow that example.

dreamingofsun · 17/01/2014 22:08

am i the only person who it makes feel physically sick? I'm not kidding. I'm normal in every other way (or like to think of myself). i think it might be the smell?

ThreeBeeOneGee · 17/01/2014 22:15

I sometimes have nightmares that I'm choking on a big wad of chewing gum. I'm trying to pull it all out of my mouth and keep gagging/retching.

NorksAreMessy · 17/01/2014 22:21

I love chewing gum.
Some medications make my mouth very dry. There is a finite amount of water I can drink without spending all day in the loo.
Chewing gum keeps my mouth moist (!) and my teeth clean

But I Do NOT pop, pull, stringify, smack lips, drool, discard on seats or pavement, or blow bubbles

greenbananas · 17/01/2014 22:28

Dreamingofsun, my mum used to feel the same way about certain flavors of crisps. She was a teacher, and sitting on a coach with a big group of children all eating flavored crisps used to make her so sick that she banned all crisps except plain from school trips - she knew she was seeming unreasonable, but explained to the parents that she couldn't take good care of the child if their crisps were making her ill.
