To think this baby does look cold? <warning - judgy pants>

Saw this in the Mail earlier but to avoid all the don't click nonsense I've found this version.

Obviously massive over-reaction by whoever called the police, and by the police themselves, they certainly have better things to do (or should have, and the woman is right about the response you get if you get burgled or report vandalism), but can't help thinking I would never take a young child out on a prom in January wearing just a thin top like that. At the very least they'd have a warm jumper/cardi and a hat but most probably a coat and mittens and proper shoes/boots. I notice the mum has a thick cardi and boots on!

Yes agree they had to respond to this. They couldn't risk not following up a concern raised about a child's welfare

SouthernComforts · 17/01/2014 00:12

I judge her more for taking the baby back to the coast in inappropriate clothes, letting her get cold AGAIN,just so the mother can do a DM sad face.

Misspixietrix · 17/01/2014 00:13

Its hardly harassing her is it? The police were checking her welfare surely.responding to a report about a DC being in these temperatures without a coat on. Pethate of mine by the way. If she's got a coat on surely she can deduce that the baby would probably want one on too Confused. I hate this in the summer too when its boiling hot. Mother walks along in breezy sundress and yet the kid is wrapped up to the nines.

bouquetofpencils · 17/01/2014 00:17

I know this seafront pretty well, even in summer I always have a fleece and scarf ready. It may have been 8 degrees (which is cold without a coat) but if hubby was surfing that means it was windy and brrrr that seafront is CCCOOLLDD when it's breezy!

InsanityandBeyond · 17/01/2014 00:26

The poor kid looked frozen. Yes the police should have reacted to concerns from a member of the public about the welfare of the child. She should have been embarrassed not run complaining to the newspapers.

Coumarin · 17/01/2014 00:39

Yes she looks freezing. Tiny thin shoes and a flimsy top, dress thing isn't adequate for this time of year.

Calling 999 is a bit over the top though.

Coumarin · 17/01/2014 00:43

Actually thinking about it, I'm not sure what the alternative would be. She's the type of person to go and do a sad-face for the DM so I doubt she'd listen to reason. Maybe a heavy handed approach was the way to go. Although looking at her I doubt it.

And yes I have my judgy pants on and I am hiking them up as far as they will go.

squoosh · 17/01/2014 00:45

I hope you give yourself a wedgie.

Coumarin · 17/01/2014 06:28

Grin Thanks Squoosh

HesterShaw · 18/01/2014 11:02

Sorry, this is irrelevant but if hubby was surfing that means it was windy is so very wrong! He wasn't windsurfing, and swell is not generated by local wind.

This story was in my dream last night Confused

HaroldLloyd · 18/01/2014 11:10

Calling 999 is totally ridiculous but I think the kid would have been cold.

Some of those comments are totally horrendous, especially the top one Hester is referring to.

bouquetofpencils · 19/01/2014 00:23

Hester I bow to your knowledge of surfing, wind and swells.

HesterShaw · 19/01/2014 12:02

Bowing accepted.

I know nothing about cold babies though so we're even.

nooka · 12/03/2014 18:26

In the pictures the baby does look both cold and unhappy, which is sort of interesting as the story line is clearly 'unreasonable police / nanny state' so I would have expected that if there was any manipulation going on it would have been to make the child look more warmly dressed than she actually was.

Seems a complete storm in a teacup to me, someone was worried and called the police (and perhaps abduction was the concern or maybe it was a lot longer than 10 mins and the contrast between warmly dressed mum and cold baby really worried someone), police arrived quickly (great) a few words were spoken and the concern was resolved (good too). Why the mother then felt that it was a good idea to milk this non event into newspaper and TV pieces is beyond me.

Burren · 12/03/2014 18:35

But why are you then resurrecting a two-month old thread about this non-event, nooka?

nooka · 12/03/2014 19:07

Oops. It was on my last 15mins list. I didn't look at the date. Weird

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/03/2014 19:39

Odd that mum is in a cosy cardi and dd is in a long sleeved t shirt. I'd think it was probably pretty cold down by the sea,8 degrees or not! Baby looks cold but I wouldn't call the police!Hmm

NobodyLivesHere · 12/03/2014 19:51

My youngest at that age had a red nose and cheeks at all times. Part of being a very pale blonde. She also hated people so the look may just be because she's being photographed by strangers.
10 mins in the cold never killed anyone.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/03/2014 20:46

Actually that's very true,ds had red cheeks from teething etc, also very pale skin.
