last night my 'd' bil posted a vile picture of his wife (my sis) with her teeth blacked out, and looking all wrinkly. the caption underneath was "how could any man resist?" i don't think she's seen it. i am very upset. i think it's horrible. should i just laugh it off and see it as a joke? i dont understand it. he had an affair about a year ago but my sister doesn't know. she's quite an innocent. but i think she suspected and brushed it under the carpet.

Your bil is a twat and you should tell him so.

What a bizarre thing to do. Some people do have a weird sense of humour though and some couples do make fun of each other, it depends how she would react. If it breaches the boundaries in their relationship and would upset her then it is disrespectful.

The affair is much more worrying. Do you know he had an affair or is it just gossip? Why doesn't she know? An affair could put her at risk of STDs so is more serious than a silly picture.

When you say all wrinkly, had he drawn the wrinkles on? I would find that really funny if my dp did that but only if it was obviously me but made to look grotesque! I enjoy making silly faces and photographing them! Clearly I wouldn't find it funny if it was just a picture of me with that horrible caption! Hope that makes sense. The important thing is though, what will your sister think?

I've seen a few of these on facebook, there is a phone app that lets you edit photos to age people etc. Most people seem to take it as a joke and not malicious, I wouldn't describe it as vile. Your BIL sounds like a wanker for other reasons though.

Oh if it's one of those apps I would almost certainly find it funny but would like dp to share it with me first before putting it out there! Agree with Whitepuddingsupper though, think this is the least of your poor sister's problems.

YABU, it's an iPhone app, most of my friends are doing this and posting similar comments about their spouses.

Babydubs, surely a recipe for utter disaster. What if Sis doesn't believe OP? Sis may think her DH is the best thing ever and OP is stirring.

TBH OP I think its vile that you knew he had an affair and didnt tell your Sis.

It would be worse if she found out about the affair from another source and realised her own sister knew and didn't tell her! But it does depend how the OP knows her BIL is having an affair, if it's just gossip and she's not sure it could come across as stirring.

I agree with thetoysarealive - I would be less concerned about a daft jokey picture and more about the fact that you should be telling your sister that she's married to an adulterer

If my sister were married to an adulterer and I knew it for a fact, I'd be ashamed of myself for not telling her.

Put yourself in your sister's situation. How would you feel if you found out your partner had an affair and your sister knew but didn't tell you? That should help you decide what to do.

Why post before you know if your sis is aware of this pic?

It makes a difference.

I would post a similar one of him to match that of your sister and write a similar caption.
