Its my daughters 2nd birthday party on saturday. Ive booked a soft play party and have 9 children confirmed as comming. Does this seam ok for a party bag? 2 diffrent sweets, large bouncy ball, bubbles, colouring book, crayons, age appropriate pocket money toy ie frizbie, skipping rope... twirly straw, balloon on a stick and party popper.. they also will get a bit of cake and a fuzzy eds party bag. Does that seam ok?

To be absolutely honest, my heart sinks slightly when I see a well stuffed party bag - dd will play with the stuff for all of 30 seconds before abandoning it on the kitchen windowsill, where it will live for the next month before I chuck it. Seems a bit of a waste!

I'm thinking of disposable stuff only for dds bag - stickers, tattoo (yuck I know, but they love them), sweets, cake. That should be fine shouldn't it?

I find a trip to home bargains always good ....fab sticker books in there ....always buy in bulk for party bags when they have some great ones in.

I may be competitive about cake, but mine are allowed to keep the plastic tat except whistles until they fall to bits. Where does that put me on the spreadshit? Grin Wink

Does seem rather a lot, especially for such a young child's party.

However I disagree about most of the contents of party bags being binned. My DC always loved their party bags and it's amazing how cheap stuff can have just as much appeal as expensive.

By the end of the party stage with my three, I was going to the Poundshop and buying multipacks of sweets - some reasonably parent-approved, like smarties, and some more additive-heavy ones like popping candy - and I filled bagfuls of sweets - they got that, plus a chunk of cake, and I never had any complaints.

I did once try buying a craft kit for each child, instead of party bags, and explained this when I handed them out - and one little girl brought hers back to me and said she wanted a party bag instead - her face fell a bit when I explained that it was the craft kit or nothing.

Mummyzoe - I forgot to say that I am afraid I think that is way too much for a party bag. You are being very generous, but way over the top, imo.

I think it can make parents feel very uncomfortable if they feel their child has received such a generous party bag. Maybe their gift to your child will seem a bit mean in comparison, and maybe they will feel bad if they can't afford to do as generous a party bag for their child's party.

Greenshadow - I stopped putting the cheap toys in the party bags not because they weren't played with, but because they broke so quickly, and that felt like a waste of money.

Yes, my two love all the crappy toys, they also love choosing them for their party bags and filling them.

MrsGrasshead · 15/01/2014 17:17

Sounds plenty. My dc love that sort of thing.
