Its my daughters 2nd birthday party on saturday. Ive booked a soft play party and have 9 children confirmed as comming. Does this seam ok for a party bag? 2 diffrent sweets, large bouncy ball, bubbles, colouring book, crayons, age appropriate pocket money toy ie frizbie, skipping rope... twirly straw, balloon on a stick and party popper.. they also will get a bit of cake and a fuzzy eds party bag. Does that seam ok?

I agree with rhubarb wrapped birthday cake and a balloon

neontetra · 14/01/2014 23:54

Lovely, very generous, but ditch the party poppers (hazardous). Otherwise very kind.

lilyaldrin · 14/01/2014 23:59

I always put in loads of shit I know the parents will hate Grin

Bubbles - messy
Haribo - sugar! Gelatine! Additives!
Whistles - loud

LittleBearPad · 15/01/2014 00:01

It seems an awful lot of stuff.
Why do you need to do a party bag when the venue is doing one.
What's the AIBU question.

aquashiv · 15/01/2014 00:01

Sounds fine to me but I bin the shit as soon as I can.

splasheeny · 15/01/2014 00:38

Surprised so few people picked up on this: do not give part poppers!! So dangerous.

Sweets I would also avoid.

Otherwise sounds like a lot (so fine, but no need to give so much)

Chottie · 15/01/2014 01:56

Way too much, I would feel a bit embarrassed receiving so much stuff. Some parents might feel a bit awkward knowing they could not afford to do the same.

Seems a lot, but everything in there is good. At dd's 3rd birthday we did:

piece of cake
2 balloons (not blown up)
sheet of stickers
bubble mix

They all seemed happy with their lot!

Ragwort · 15/01/2014 07:08

You do know that 90% of what goes into a party bag (including the cake) goes straight into the bin when the child gets it home Grin.

Kytti · 15/01/2014 07:20

balloon, couple of sweets, perhaps a bouncy ball if I'm feeling generous and some cake. I hate party-bags.

SlightlyTerrified · 15/01/2014 09:03

Sounds like way too much. Some sweets, a bit of cake and one thing is sufficient IMO. Most party bag stuff goes in the bin ie bubbles, crayons (all kids have loads of these) plastic toys.

Most of my friends will buy books and wrap them up so they receive a pack of sweets and an age appropriate book. This costs just over £1 each as The Book People do some great deals of packs of books.

If not books then stickers or tattos are ok and maybe balloons (although they are banned in our house), bubbles are ok but only for the really little ones.

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 15/01/2014 11:10

Too much stuff. I had too much stuff in bags when Dds were that age too. About half that would be enough.

ohhifruit · 15/01/2014 11:15

Christ, are they paying for these party bags or something?

gotthemoononastick · 15/01/2014 11:42

Could I just ask why all the cake is binned?(old and jaw dropping here)

PatriciaHolm · 15/01/2014 11:49

why so much? the venue bag would be plenty! give the book and cake as well and that's more than enough.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/01/2014 11:50

Just do cake, a balloon, a few sweets and one very inexpensive toy here. That seems to be standard. Or the lucky dip for something slightly more expensive. A few people did start doing the Book People thing and then realised that everyone was doing the same two or three sets of books, and they were all ending up in the charity shop so that stopped.

SlightlyTerrified · 15/01/2014 12:16

I have just re read and noticed about the cake being binned, surely that is the main thing that would NOT be binned.

I would be upset about this as I spend about 5 hours baking/decorating cakes for the DSs birthdays.

Yes you have to be careful re the book people books, I pick specifically for the children for very small parties but for bigger ones I would do something different. TBH both my DCs are in very small classes so we don't end up with lots of duplicates which is nice.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/01/2014 12:20

We bin cake fairly regularly I'm afraid, although it tends to be when it is shop bought rather than homemade, shop bought ones just aren't very nice. I spent about 5 hours making DD's last week, but I don't mind whether it gets eaten or not, I enjoyed doing it and DD loved it and that's the main thing.

SlightlyTerrified · 15/01/2014 12:26

Yes I guess you're right, I love doing it also, the DCs seem not to enjoy the shop bought ones as much either as they are quite dry.

HoratiaDrelincourt · 15/01/2014 12:56

My DC chuck bought cake - how do they get it so dry?! - but can spot made cake a mile off and fight over it.

No, we love all the crap toys, it's just the cake that gets chucked. DCs choice, not mine. Smile

SlightlyTerrified · 15/01/2014 14:07

volestair Grin I did not say we chuck it I said they don't enjoy it as much! I am happy with cheap crayons but they have hundreds (not organic) and they love plastic crap toys - I just don't Grin
