To not want to give all my personal details and have a credit check done just to buy a flaming bra.

Being preggers again I wanted to buy a nursing bra. I had a really nice one last time so was rather pleased to see the same type advertised in a magazine.

It did say on the ad send no money now but I have the money in my account so decided to ring up and get buy two using my debit card.

What happened next was so frustrating, having placed the order I was told they would set up a credit account for me and started asking personal questions, I interrupted and said I wanted to pay in full, I was told that when I got the goods and they were OK I could pay in full then, but they needed to set up a credit account for me before they would accept my order.

I asked to speak to a supervisor who told me that it was to protect me
as I could try on and return the items if they were not suitable or I changed my mind, but (as I stated to her) I am covered by distance selling regs anyway so even If I pay in full I can cancel the order, and I can return faulty or not as described goods.

Anyway whilst on the phone speaking to them I was looking up the bra on the internet and found some on ebay and amazon. I gave them one last chance to have my custom and money, but no, no credit account no bras.

I just don't understand this attitude, surely in these tough times a company would be happy to have new customers with cash to spend, or is it just a ploy to entice me into buying a whole load of goods on credit and sell my details on.

They make money on credit accounts
Lots of interest
Sell your details
With a limit they know people send more buying their overpriced goods, so they make more money

I'm glad you didn't get burnt as a result of the flaming bra. Very good OP.

YANBU. I really dislike companies that insist on a credit account. I used to shop with NEXT and La Redoute, but got fed up with the payments not just being "there and then" and receiving unwanted catalogues. So now I will only buy from websites where you can pay in full immediately.

Their loss. Good for you for making a stand. They shouldn't ride roughshod against their customers.
