To think this is RUDE!

To turn off all the lights in a room with no warning because you "Can't see the screen properly"??

DH just did this. He's watching Boardwalk Empire which I don't like because of the gratuitous violence. I was on my laptop...I hardly ever sit in that room as I work for myself and thought "Oh well I think I'll sit and surf the internet and watch a bit of what DH is watching" for once.....I don't like that show but thought whatever...I have the laptop. Then BONK! All the fucking lights go out!

I said "You can't do that..." and he was all "Well I can't see it properly"

Angry he should have asked first yes?

Yes it is rude. Have a friend who does this. I put them back on again until she asks properly.

AwfulMaureen · 11/01/2014 23:24

Vole really? Really? What about the fact that that room has the most comfortable seats? I can't sit in them unless I want to be in darkness because he's watching telly? I needed to be comfy...in that room.

I'm so irritated. It really rubbed me up the wrong way. I got the RAGE when it happened.

Rude yes. DH and FiL do it all the time, even in other people's houses!!

PinkandPoo · 11/01/2014 23:41

DH does this.

He also:
changes the channel or volume without asking or warning when I'm watching TV too
puts the radio on in the bedroom in the morning when I'm still asleep
puts music on the stereo in the lounge really loud without asking when I'm in there doing something else

It's because he thinks he's in charge, because he's the man Angry He gets its from FIL who behaves in exactly the same way.
I'm constantly having a go at him about it.

BikeRunSki · 11/01/2014 23:43

PinkandPoo

Are you married to DH?

AwfulMaureen · 11/01/2014 23:47

We don't even HAVE overhead lights on...there are two lamps...he'd already turned one off which I didn't really notice...then SNAP the one next to me went.

He just said "It wasn't rude....I'm really tired."

WELL GO TO BED THEN! And if you can't see without all the lights off GO TO THE OPTICIANS!!!!

Sorry. I'm really annoyed.

YABU

He was looking forward to watching his favourite programme, you come in and start tap tap tapping away on your laptop. Someone tutting over gratuitous violence and musing over thermal vests on the M&S website would drive me crackers if I was trying to concentrate on a DVD.

I'd have turned out the lights too, think of it as smoking rats out of their nest. Harsh but necessary.

AwfulMaureen · 12/01/2014 00:06

Huh. Or you could say "I was looking forward to chilling out in a comfy seat for once and there he is with his stupid show...bang, bang...punch punch while I try to concentrate."

Same same.

My DH does the opposite - I like side-lit mood-lighting sort of light in the evenings - he always puts the bright overhead light on - I hate it!

fishnchipsholdthebroonsauce · 12/01/2014 00:34

he was definitely a bit silly, if not a complete fanny

complexnumber · 12/01/2014 00:37

Well worth starting a thread on MN

BillyBanter · 12/01/2014 00:43

Has he considered having his eyes tested? Confused or is it daytime there with sun streaming in?

Bunbaker · 12/01/2014 00:47

I can't watch TV in the dark as it hurts my eyes. I would be really annoyed if someone did this to me.

Oh, and I hate low lighting because I have crap eyesight. I need strong overhead lighting to see properly. And don't get me started on candles - they are for power cuts and birthday cakes only.
