back story - 26 years old, married, never been pregnant before, am on the pill, period is due in next few days...

I feel nauseous, dizzy, suddenly averse to wine and coffee (highly out of character for me!), bloated and have an upset tummy (tmi sorry)

I did a test yesterday and it was negative, however dr Google tells me this could be false because a) it was lunchtime, b) my period isn't late yet and c) I drink a lot of water throughout the day

I've had pregnancy false alarms before but this is different, somehow! I never feel sick, for one thing, and it's almost constant motion sickness now, as if I've just stepped off a boat.

above all I feel a strong sense of intuition, which is highly unlike me as I am usually a highly practical type.

more experienced ladies, help me please! did anyone else 'just know' they were pregnant? how long should I wait before testing again?

Yes, twice. I was even told the first time I had had a miscarriage by my doctor yet was still suffering morning sickness three weeks later. I had a short pregnancy.

Second time I had a negative test. I was asked if I had just done the test as per the instructions and thrown it away - which I had done. I was told that sometimes it needed to be left longer. There is more chance of a false negative than a false positive. Try again in a few more days.

formerbabe · 10/01/2014 13:39

I 'just knew' many times that I was pregnant...I wasn't. When I was I also just knew. Accidents can happen when on the pill but probably not as often as people say!

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 10/01/2014 13:44

My last pregnancy I knew I was pregnant before I tested as I felt nauseous, dizzy and my boobs hurt. I did a test and it was faintly positive. Unfortunately I miscarried a week later.

With DS I didn't have a clue, I just thought my period was a bit late. Unfortunately pregnancy symptoms also mimic illness and period symptoms, so it's hard to tell. The only thing you can do is wait til you are due on and test again.

Scarbella2 · 10/01/2014 13:47

Yes I did a test and it came up negative but I knew I was pregnant: and low and behold I was!
The test may have been out of date or something so I got a new pack a few days later and there was the positive.
Hope you get the result you want:-)

TreTops · 10/01/2014 13:48

With my 2 pregnancies I only got positives results on the tests even with more concentrated morning wee when I was about 4 days late, so wait a bit and test again.

VulvaVoom · 10/01/2014 13:52

I had a negative test but I just knew I was pregnant. I did another one 3 days later (in the morning) and hey presto! 15 month old DD is currently upstairs having a nap :)

KnitFastDieWarm · 10/01/2014 13:58

oh goodness me, I thought you were all going to tell me I was being ridiculous! I will wait a few days and retest using good strong morning wee ;-p

we weren't planning on ttc for a year or so (only got married last August, haven't even been on honeymoon yet!) but both DH and I would be over the moon (if a little surprised) if it happened now.

goodness me, I don't like waiting and seeing! anyone know where I can buy a stash of cheap tests? the fancy ones cost a bomb!

My negative test (x2) is sitting on my knee drooling as I type :)

Nancy66 · 10/01/2014 14:00

if you haven't missed a pill then I doubt you are

HKat · 10/01/2014 14:05

Same as FuckYouChris, my own negative test is snoozing on the sofa next to me :)

scaevola · 10/01/2014 14:10

Well I "knew" before I tested with 2 of my PGs, but I can remember being equally sure at least one other time when Inwasn't.

It is tummy bug season, so that could account for it too. But of course if it is a tummy bug, that could be doing awful things to your absorption of the pill and you might be at risk now IYSWIM.

KnitFastDieWarm · 10/01/2014 14:12

thanks so much all, I will test again in a few days ...and let you know!

If not, it sounds very much like you have an inner ear infection.

Waltonswatcher1 · 10/01/2014 14:13

Seven negative tests...felt pregnant and was scared to take a prescription.
Was not trying but delighted ,to have her seven months later!

WaitMonkey · 10/01/2014 14:14

Good luck.

FamilyIssues1234 · 10/01/2014 14:15

Actually re-reading it, I could guarantee thats what it is.

All the symptoms you have are typical of an inner ear infection.

Looks like you need to see your GP, fix that then get on with TTC.

SofaKing · 10/01/2014 14:19

Pound shop pg tests work fine and you get two per pack :)

I used them to test for ds2, the child I conceived the month I got the implant put in. Even though I didn't believe them for weeks they were correct.

lubeybooby · 10/01/2014 14:20

I think if you have enough symptoms making you feel like that there should be enough of the hormone around to show up on a test - I would check again with it being a bit early to test but I'd wager no, not pregnant

Halfling · 10/01/2014 14:22

For my DS, I got a negative pregnancy test result 5 times before a BFP.

WilsonFrickett · 10/01/2014 14:23

I'm joining Family on the doctor internet couch and also thinking it's an inner ear thing. DH had labyrinthitus (sp?) and had a whole three weeks of pregnancy symptoms from him!

17leftfeet · 10/01/2014 14:28

I had pregnancy symptoms a week before my period was due and a very clear positive test

A touch of wishful thinking maybe?

FamilyIssues1234 · 10/01/2014 14:34

Both my pregnancies I got a positive result 4 days before my period was due and didnt have any symptoms until 3-4 weeks after that.

So I agree, symptoms, no BFP, no missed pill and symptoms like inner esr infection Id say probably not pregnant.

Perhaps highlighted though that you are both more ready to TTC than you originally thought, which is quite exciting for you both? Grin

stickysausages · 10/01/2014 14:34

Could be, but you might not be. Unfortunately, only way to find out is to wait and see. Hope you get the result you want x

Madmog · 10/01/2014 14:37

I've only been pregnant once, but knew I was. About six days after conception, there was a lot of food and wine I just didn't fancy and by the time I came to test I was starting to get nausea and feeling off. My breasts really hurt at the sides (not normal tenderness and soreness before I usually come on). I did the test about 10am on the day I was due and it had already changed by the time I pulled it up to look at it.

Tulip26 · 10/01/2014 14:43

If you're still late in a week, go and ask your doctor for a blood test. Sometimes it's the only way to know.
