To those who have been to see it, is it worth the price?
Am I out of touch with theatre pricing?
Phantom is cheaper and if my kids were older we'd go see that (aged 12 and 10).
I think 65 quid each is a lot but if is as good as the reviews, then maybe its worth it??
Dates are early Feb on a Fri night as can't get 3 seats together at any other performance that weekend.

thanks in advance for any replies.

Oh that's good news mychildrenarebarmy. If no-one asked her age we'd be ok, she'd never say she was 6 when she isn't!!

DS2 was 5 when we went to Matilda. He was really good. If your daughter has been taken to the theatre before and knows the deal, and is usually able to concentrate, it should be fine. Certainly nobody asked his age.

That getintoLondontheatre.co.uk link was great - thanks MsAsprey. I'll be working out what I can book in the next few weeks ...

We saw Matilda as a family of four, on Boxing Day 2012, DC were 9 and 5 at the time. Paid £65 for mid-stall seats, not a price we'd normally consider but it was an extra-special Christmas treat. So pleased we paid the higher price, had such a good view that the DC were enthralled from start to finish. The little one was guffawing so loudly at Miss Trunchbull's antics that members of the audience were turning round and laughing with HER! Fantastic show, great memories for us all!

I paid about that for Matilda, and took DTDs when they were 5. We loved it. I think the age limit is sensible, but obviously kids are all different. DTDs were used to the theatre, and able to concentrate. It's such a witty script that it would be a shame to take kids who weren't able to listen carefully and really make the most of it. We're going to Charlie & The Chocolate Factory over Easter - looking forward to it, but I bet it won't be as good.

YEs you wouldn't take a minor to book of Mormon. Grin
I took dd and her friend (they're 16/17). A few people didn't reappear after the interval......it does say all over the website and on the tickets that it is NOT for the easily offended.
The Fuck you God song is superb.

I always have a good seat...need lots of leg room and want to be able to see everything...theatre monkey is excellent as someone else said.

MILLYMOLLYMANDYMAX

We had front row of the Dress Circle and they were great for us but would probably be a little bit less so for children because of the bar at the front.

All seat prices are the same there are no discounts for children except for kids week.

I know, but what I meant, and said, was that the bar at the front of the Dress Circle would mean that the seats there would be less good for children than they were for us. I didn't mean that they would charge less for children there because of the not so good view.

Although you can get £10 off for tickets for under 18's on some seats on most dates.

"Under 18s £10 off* On Price Bands A, B & C (not Premium seats) for Tuesday – Thursday performances, including Wednesday matinees. This is only available over the phone or in person at the Box Office. Valid for up to 2 tickets per full-price paying adult – maximum 8 tickets per transaction."

Adding to the voices saying how fabulous Matilda is - just booked to see it again. Saw Charlie at the weekend - enjoyed it but it lacked the genius of Matilda.

Oh bugger it, I've just booked to take the DSs again in the Easter holidays. Cheap seats again, sadly, but all this talk of Matilda got me very tempted. We are in the front row of the Upper Circle. I know it's along way up but at least we won't have big adults in front of us. We'll probably have a blinking security bar though, and I'll have to hang onto DS 2 for dear life because if there's anything to fall off he will...

Dcs went last week with school, cost £36 included coach but up in the gods. They are 16 and 18 and adored it. DS wants to take his gf and is prepared to queue up at 7am to get the £10 tickets for 16-25 year olds.
