wontletmesignin · 08/01/2014 13:16

I like my music, and i like it fairly loud.
I also like to listen to it daily.

Only i know the walls are quite thin and i worry that im doing the neighbours heads in.

Aibu to play my music how i like it, through reasonable hours?

Couldn't you wear headphones?

Scholes34 · 08/01/2014 13:17

Get some headphones.

tenementfunster · 08/01/2014 13:19

you clearly have no idea how stressful it is to listen to loud music from your neighbours. It's also not just the volume, it's also the bass which can destroy people's peace and sanity.

get yourself some headphones

YABVU

If you want to play music loudly all day move out to the arse end of nowhere where no one else has to suffer it.

wontletmesignin · 08/01/2014 13:20

Wow. I really never thought of that! Blush
Thank yous

Play your music but maybe not too loud. Push a note through your neighbour's door saying that if it becomes a problem you will not feel offended if they mention it and you will stop.

wontletmesignin · 08/01/2014 13:23

I never have it blasting, but enough so i can hear it if i go into another room.

I will lower it and will purchase some cordless headphones for when i want it loud

sorry i was momentarily really cross- not with you- just bitter past memories! glad you are open to people's suggestions

wontletmesignin · 08/01/2014 13:26

No problem tenement. I have also lived near someone who played their music ridiculously loud. Through to early hours. 8 houses away and i could hear it in bed.
God help those who lived next door.
Thankfully they were evicted.

Agree that it's not just the volume but the bass. I used to live in a flat next to a bloke who played some kind of dance music all day long. It just sounded like somebody hammering. All. Day. Long.

getdownshep · 08/01/2014 13:28

Another vote for headphones,I hate hearing music through the walls.
You are probably annoying them, but most people don't like confrontation.

wontletmesignin · 08/01/2014 13:32

I feel quite bad now. It hasnt been overly loud, just quite loud. They may not have even heard it. I always make sure the bass is not on also.

Ive been playing it loud for about 2 weeks now, on and off.

My dd likes her music though, and she can play it quite loud. I will be telling her the same.

Thank you all. I hope i havent annoyed them

yes! Headphones
Great you're aware enough to ask for advice
My ndn isn't
which is why the council and police are now monitoring him after our complaints Smile

amievil · 08/01/2014 13:51

OP, it's great that you are concerned. :)

Would it not make a huge amount of sense to wander round to you neighbours and have a conversation that starts along the lines of "Hi there, I'm wontletmesignin from next door, you know, the one who likes to listen to music. I just thought I'd pop round and check that I'm not causing a nuisance"

If they tel you that you are then you've opened up a dialogue and a way forward can be agreed before resentment gets too deep.

Hope this helps

specialsubject · 08/01/2014 14:11

please buy and wear headphones. The thump thump thump drives people INSANE. Your music must NOT be audible outside your house. If you don't live in a detached, it needs to be kept LOW.

BTW too loud music blows our your hearing. You may need that later.

jakesmith · 08/01/2014 14:18

Get a networked music system like squeezebox, you can synchronise them so the music plays the same in all rooms so you can play it at a volume that won't upset neighbours but still hear it round the house.
Or treat yourself to a luxurious expensive pair of headphones that will sound great
But don't play music that your neighbours can hear it's so uneeasant to be on the other side of the wall

gimcrack · 08/01/2014 14:35

Ask your neighbours. They're the only people who can answer your question.

Marylou62 · 08/01/2014 16:55

My life was made a misery by our downstairs neighbour who played the same song over n over. I think he was asleep and it was a programmable player. Sometimes till 4am!!! and I was pregnant! Every time I hear this song now it takes me back to a hard time in my life. Any way you sound really nice and am not suggesting you are like this. Yes next time you see them just mention that you hope your music is not annoying them. My new neighbours play loud music but very rarely late so I haven't complained. In fact I just turn up Robbie Williams louder!!

wontletmesignin · 08/01/2014 18:09

Thank you all. I will keep it on low from now on, until i can get my hands on some headphones.
That networked music system sounds good! So thanx for that. I will look into that too.

All music is off by 6pm in my house, so its never on too late. Hopefully, if i have annoyed them - i wont anymore Smile
