To think that implantation bleeding is a cruel myth?

It seems designed to first bring hope to those TTC and then dash it!

The minute anyone TTC has an early/late/light period starting, first there's the disappointment of 'damn - I'm out this month', then someone (often said TTCers own brain!) pipes up with "it could be implantation?" and for another 24hrs you live in hope, but it's always AF!!

I searched for IB on MN search over the last year, and not one 'could this be implantation bleeding' thread ended in a BFP.

So WIBU to think it's just an urban myth made up by women who really wanna be pregnant?! (And I count myself in that category btw!)

I also wonder where this 30% figure has come about. Is it based on women contacting their GPs for advice?

DamnBamboo · 07/01/2014 12:34

Got implanation bleeds with two out of three of mine.

FryOneFatManic · 07/01/2014 12:50

I never had implantation bleeding, and neither did mum. But I do know a couple of people who did have it.

So not a myth, just not a guaranteed event.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 07/01/2014 14:48

Three pregnancies, the only one I had implantation bleeding with was the one I lost (bleed, thought it was period, fizzled out after two days then nothing, tested week later and BFP). Other two no sign and a dd at the end of each one.

Aniseeda · 07/01/2014 15:07

My sil had it with her second baby.

I am like you, though, OP. Before DS1 my periods would start with no warning and be instantly full on (as it were!)

Since DS1 I have always had at least 24 hours of very very light spotting first - great for giving me advance warning to stock up on the san-pro but horrible when it took a year to conceive DS2 and every month had me trying to convince myself it was just implantation bleeding and then being devastated when it wasn't. However, I guess I would have been equally devastated by a sudden onset period as I just wanted to be f'ing pregnant!

Hope you get your bfp soon.

grizzabellia · 07/01/2014 15:11

I had with my first but it was a tiny amount and much earlier than my period would have been due. With the subsequent 2 I have had cramps but no bleeding. I think anything at the right time and heavy enough for a period is a period!

emblosion · 07/01/2014 15:18

I had it both times, but as others have said it was very light and pinky brown, not red blood. Also lasted less than a day each time and was a few days before my period was due.

worsestershiresauce · 07/01/2014 15:19

I had it, and as a result had no idea I was pregnant until I was nearly 10 weeks. I felt like a clueless teenager when I realised.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 07/01/2014 15:25

I had it with my DTs, and had no idea it even existed, and no idea I was pregnant until around 9 weeks (thought it was just AF), so definitely not a myth!

winkywinkola · 07/01/2014 15:27

I had it with all 4. I was convinced it was a period for all 4.

Edenviolet · 07/01/2014 15:29

With my fourth pg I had slight bleeding at 6-8 weeks. Thought it was a mc and was devastated. Went for a scan and they told me it was implantation bleeding and not to worry. Before that I didn't believe it either.

Babylonmood · 07/01/2014 15:30

I thought it was the start of my period. Did test- negative. Forgot about it. Realised a few days later the period had not materialised. Searched implantation bleeding on MN. Read every single thread. Did test- positive.

lastnightopenedmyeyes · 07/01/2014 15:32

I had implantation bleeding with all 3 pregnancies. One ended at 7 weeks a week after the implantation bleed, the other 2.... Well I'm 38 weeks with dc2 and dc1 is 3 Wink

Definitely not a myth.

lastnightopenedmyeyes · 07/01/2014 15:34

I should say that all 3 times it was nothing like a period for me. More like pink/brown discharge than actual bleeding.

TonksLupin · 07/01/2014 15:55

I had an implantation bleed but it was extremely light! Only lasted an hour or so and was light pink blood. Probably wouldn't have even noticed if I wasn't trying to conceive.

cashmiriana · 07/01/2014 16:01

I had one with second pregnancy, but as it was like the first day of a period (light) it took a few days to register that the 'period' had come to very little. Mind you that was a weird pregnancy full stop - didn't get the BFP until about day 43.

Booboostoo · 07/01/2014 16:26

I had it with DD. It was very light, but I still needed a daily pad for two days and the blood was brown. I got BFN right after so I thought it was the start of the menopause. I then missed my next period and got BFP. I was 7 weeks at that stage so the bleeding happened around week 2.

I haven't had it yet with this pregnancy (about 3 weeks so very early days yet).

Normalisavariantofcrazy · 07/01/2014 16:52

My implantation bleeds ended in miscarriages at 5 and 9 weeks.

DeWe · 07/01/2014 17:19

I often have a little light spotting a day or two (2-3 drops) before my period comes. When you're ttc, you're looking out for such things and so you notice it much more.
I suspect that implantantion bleeding for many people is similar, just it's light enough not to attach any significants usually.

sebsmummy1 · 07/01/2014 17:24

I had an implantation bleed.

I was out shopping on a Saturday and my period was due the following week. I went to the toilet and as I
Pulled my pants down there was a 50 pence piece sized blood spot that was almost black in colour.

I knew that was extremely weird for me, immediately bought a pregnancy test and the rest is history Grin

mrsbug · 07/01/2014 19:06

I had this, a few days before my period was due. I thought it was my resume period ( the first day of my period is usually light), so I consoled myself with a glass of wine or three. Next day it had tapered off so I did a test, faint positive. Couple of days after that did another one and got a definite line.

mrsbug · 07/01/2014 19:07

Not sure where the word'resume' in that post came from Confused

Toecheese · 07/01/2014 19:30

Haven't read the thread but I had implantation spotting with each baby (4boys) at about 9 or 10 days past ovulation. I expect some women wouldn't realise though if their pants were black?

Mariposa70 · 07/01/2014 19:43

I'm having that prob at the moment.

Was really getting my hopes up and planning to get a test, but have had some light spotting.

Was trying to convince myself it is implantation (but I know AF will be with me by tomorrow)

I know how you feel and it sucks, good luck.

bluebeanie · 07/01/2014 19:49

I always had spotting before my period. 13 months ago I was gutted it happened again. My little baby girl has just gone to bed. Ttc totally messes with your head. Every month I looked for the signs. That month was the only time I've ever had back ache. Good luck and try to enjoy it.Smile
