Seeing as the government appear to have kicked off their campaign Hmm I thought now was the time to start nagging talking about voting.

This weekend's talk about pensions shows in a nutshell why we need to vote. The government - any democratic government worldwide - is swayed by the need to please those they think will vote for them. So if you're not getting what you want from this government you need to vote because it is only when everybody like you votes that the wind will change in your governmental favour.

Register to vote, talk to your friends and family about voting, create some momentum and you will see change. The election of 2015 could see the biggest turn out from women under 40 ever. Anything is possible. There's been talk in the past about the 'mumsnet' election - well wouldn't it be great if that was a reality. Not in the sense of posters all voting one way, that's not the point. The point is wouldn't it be great if every user of this board voted? If every user of this board made their voice heard. It can happen.

And I'll be posting every day until it does Grin

Sorry to rain on the parade of the 'write to your MP' brigade but as someone who has worked in parliament and europarl.. Very few MPs read your letter. The hapless underpaid researcher (me) does and responds.

Don't get me started on 38 bloody degrees.

No idea who to vote for either. Always voted Tory, then voted for UKIP because of flat tax and grammar schools, became their poster girl for a bit, then left because they opposed gay marriage and I despise social conservatives almost as much as taxes and the left. I'm lost!

The thing is northern that I am still politically active, just because I spoil my ballot doesn't mean that I don't campaign against (or for) things that I find important.

I just do it with out a political label.

I'll be voting Conservative.

MyBachisworsethanmybite · 31/01/2014 08:59

I will vote but it is an utter waste of time as I live in a safe seat for a party I would never vote for. So I might as well put my ballot paper in the bin as in the ballot box, it'll have as much point.

Oh for a proportional system where each vote counts equally.

NorthernLurker · 01/02/2014 09:35

Happy Saturday - a good day to google how you can register to vote :)

I live in an area where nobody seems to vote except for elderly people, all of whom presumably vote Conservative, as they always win. I have never seen anyone else under the age of about 60 at my local polling station, so my vote counts for nothing really. I will still vote, because at least then I've tried.

NorthernLurker · 01/02/2014 17:05

And if everybody your age voted.....the old folks would be outnumbered! It's trying that matters.

MyBachisworsethanmybite · 01/02/2014 17:36

Would they, though? Are there more under-55s (say) than over?

NorthernLurker · 02/02/2014 15:05

If every under 55 voted yes that would be enough to move the debate.

I doubt know what the source for this is but you can see that the younger voting population could outnumber the older. Especially as it's physically much easier for an 18 yr old to get to the polls than it is for a 90 yr old.

Oh I always vote Northern Wink Always.

And on the way in to polling station, I cut my eye and grimace at the Tory, LibDem and Labour candidates outside, to the point where they feel uncomfortable and move their feet..and they I grin lovingly at the Green candidate Smile
