My friends bday is today, I just made a five hour trip to attend his party with His birthday cake in tow. I have fibromyalgia and my joints are already very stiff from the trip.

Friend is a student and the house the party is taking place in is the epitome of a student house, and freezing to bboot. Would it go against the party spirit to discreetly slip a hot water bottle under my party frock to keep my joints from locking?

Goodness of course not! I'd even ask him to top it up wih more boiling water when you were there!

Have a lovely time Thanks

what about those stick on heat pads? They last for hours and you can stick them exactly where you need to. Might be a supermarket close by still open?

squoosh · 05/01/2014 15:50

You've made him a cake, you've made a 5 hour journey to be there.

You can do whatever the heck you like lady! Now go boil that kettle.

TalkieToaster · 05/01/2014 15:51

Hell no! Take a microwaveable cherry stone thingy too, if you have one!

beals692 · 05/01/2014 16:06

No, YANBU - Just phrase it that it's something for your medical condition rather than a comment on how freezing his house is. You might want to consider the heat pads suggested above though, if they would be more convenient for you (ie because they would just fit easily under your clothes and would stay warm).

RaRa1988 · 05/01/2014 16:59

Nooooo! Don't be silly, YANBU at all and anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool! If you'd feel more comfortable (presumably you'll want to refill it at some point), mebbies tell him in advance?

SpottyDottie · 05/01/2014 17:36

What about one of this Curaheat warming patches? It might sound silly but it sticks to your clothes and is discreet, yet warm at the same time.

redexpat · 05/01/2014 18:25

YANBU but you will be forever known as the one who brought the hot water bottle to a party. Could you live with that?

PinkPepper · 05/01/2014 18:37

My aunt did for same reason, only she had a cool heat pack thing in the shape of a blood bag? Bit odd will try and find it :)

pointythings · 05/01/2014 20:09

Not at all, we like a cool house but DH's cousin has fibromyalgia. She knows she can bring any heat aid she wants and have it topped up whenever necessary. Simple.

YANBU. Do whatever you like. Your friends will understand and who cares what anyone else thinks?
