Ice Cream Van

minesapintofwine · 05/01/2014 14:28

I just find it odd. Aibu?

Its Jan 5th, minus something, POURING With rain. However it's going around blasting out Blue Peter, which is not nearly as annoying as the Benny Hill one. Also woke up the dts from nap (grump emotion).

I know they have to make a living but not seen any customers there all winter. I also know people still eat ice cream in this weather but well...aibu to just think it's strange?

That explains a lot - I've been wondering why the icecream van has been persistently blasting its shitty music around our estate since summer ended! Where I live, that makes perfect sense now!

Caitlin17 · 05/01/2014 20:24

Idugupadiamond(good name) I really had to think to get that reference.

AgentProvocateur · 05/01/2014 20:24

Google "ice cream wars, Glasgow". It's big business, selling drugs from the vans - tragic case 20-odd years ago when an entire family was murdered over ownership of particularly lucrative route.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 05/01/2014 20:24

Did not know any of this about ice cream vans!

But did you know that skip hire firms are all mobsters?

This is according to my ex - anyone able to second this claim?

Madambossyboots · 05/01/2014 20:25

I always thought that if ice cream vans are playing music it means
They have run out of ice cream :-)

DoYouLikeMyBaubles · 05/01/2014 20:29

It pisses me off coz there's never one seen round here in summer.

Oh and the drug dealing thing, when I lived with my scummy ex, the one that game round the estate sold cigs and weed.

Caitlin17 · 05/01/2014 20:40

Or the Bill Forsyth film, Comfort and Joy about the cut throat world of ice cream vans.

Borntorun25 · 05/01/2014 20:57

Shock I am so naive! I really had no idea! No ice cream vans come round our way, but we do get a fish van every Thurs Grin

VoteYes · 05/01/2014 21:10

We all know what Ice Cream men really sell Grin

I think you must live near me OP, always out in terrible weather.

VoteYes · 05/01/2014 21:12

Oh just read the thread and realised not everyone does. What does that say about me haha Blush (would like to point out, I'm not a client)

IneedAwittierNickname · 05/01/2014 21:17

I thought the ice cream man sold well, ice cream! (plus cans of fizzy, sweets and crisps) I'm Shock

ophiotaurus · 05/01/2014 21:20

We had one last night at 7pm in the rain. I had no idea they could be a front!!!

AnUnearthlyChild · 05/01/2014 21:20

We get a butchers van round on a Saturday.

He sells really nice mince and tasty sausages.

I daren't think what that is a front for....

ophiotaurus · 05/01/2014 21:20

If that's the case surely they must get searched by the police a lot?

AhamSaidJackLambe · 05/01/2014 21:23

If this was common knowledge would it not mean that the police would raid them often?

Annunziata · 05/01/2014 21:23

If that's the case surely they must get searched by the police a lot?

Ha! They're getting their share too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/01/2014 21:27

Sometimes I feel as though I've stepped into an alternate universe.

Juno77 · 05/01/2014 21:27

If this was common knowledge would it not mean that the police would raid them often?

Such naivety.. They're all in on it! Low level corruption.

Ilovewaleswhenitrains · 05/01/2014 21:28

This is news to me too, and I live in S Wales.

ComposHat · 05/01/2014 22:38

Our local drug dealer drives around the streets in a Mercedes with blacked out Windows. Thing is it is a cover for his ice cream business. When the youths are stood outdide his car they're actually buying strawberry splits and ice poles, rather than weed and E.

LineRunner · 05/01/2014 22:40

Compos, I bet he's parking outside schools in Islington.

Iamsparklyknickers · 05/01/2014 22:45

Re: police, I suppose it's the same thing as brothels - they turn a blind eye most of the time and concentrate on getting people higher up the chain.

Not to say that they don't watch them, but it's a pointless task to keep going after the low levels.

minesapintofwine · 05/01/2014 22:49

Well I am utterly Shock and clutching at my pearls. Who knew? And I live in the valleys too! Off to google Scottish Ice cream van drug war now. Thanks everyone you have really opened my eyes (still a bit Hmm in all honesty)

VoteYes · 05/01/2014 22:58

None of you will ever look at the local icecream van innocently again. :-)

FastWindow · 05/01/2014 23:03
