I like her, she has the perfect voice and personality for a gentle start to the early weekend mornings, blah blah but she keeps saying 'literally' when she doesn't mean literally. ,

It's like an uncontrollable verbal tic, honestly she does it at least five or six times in every bloody show and it's starting to give me the rage.

This morning we've already had:

something or other 'literally exploded/burst...' or whatever it was, can't quite remember now, and

and 'Don Black is such a great song writer - literally every hit you hear played on the the radio, he's written it.'

I don't pay my licence fee to put up with such shoddy standards. Something should be done, before we all go to hell in a handcart. This is the BBC, people.

Ooh I didn't know she was on radio two. I do like her (and wanted to be her for a good while).

But I couldn't cope with that.

I quite literally couldn't. In the truest sense of the word.

OMG, it was like something from the 1950s, all canned laughter, and amazingly crass joking about the current flooding. Funny? Not

The BBC likes spending license payers' money hand over fist and self-justifying like mad on Points of View when they should just apologise and try to do better. They are good at drama and news but absolutely dire at contemporary comedy.

Mad, oh, I hate things like that. Once you notice it, it drives you bonkers each time it happens . Someone at work does it with a specific phrase, which sometimes she uses in context, and other times she just uses is a space filling blah blah way.

daisy, I love Radio 4, but generally shudder at their comedy. How do they get it so wrong?

On Radio 4 Extra at 4 in the afternoon there's a magazine show (roughly aimed at young teens IMO) presented by Mel Geidroyc. Sometimes in an attempt to engage with her audience she has a verbal tic where she makes an aside and then growls "Yeah? Yeah??" exactly as a bully would do.

It fair gives me the willies - have often considered emailing about it, if I was the sort of person to do that sort of thing.

I agree about Radio 4 comedy too. You're better off with the classic comedies on 4 Extra - I think I must be old now enough to appreciate the Goon Show and I think Round the Horne is hysterical.

Then in the evenings you get Comedy Club - stand up comedy, from Edinburgh Fringe in season, and those kind of new comedians all the year round. They are genuinely funny, not crass and written by a committee who haven't managed to step away from the early 80s sitcom mould.

Radio 5 is excellent. I used to love radio 4 but found recently it was getting very childish and silly.

Radio 2 re mended me of my mum and jimmy young ' housewives favourite' so impossible to tune to.

Radio 5 definatly the way forward.

Actually didn't the OED add a meaning to the word literally? Saying that now it canbe used in the way Anneka is using it.

OED changed the meaning this year which enrages me even more.
So literally literally doesn't mean literally anymore, it literally means figuratively aswell.

Gives me the rage, just because effing morons have used it incorrectly with such frequency and refuse to learn how to use it correctly that they've changed it.
Doesn't mean the OED are right, the morons are still using it incorrectly but now they think they're vindicated in their use.

I love radio 4 but the comedy is such shit, especially those shows that sound like something produced by Cambridge footlights where they have a 'comic' song. It gives me the rage. Why do they do this?

It's supposed to be world class broadcasting and it makes her sound like some two-bit amateur hospital radio person. Other than that, she's very good but she really needs to be told to nip this in the bud because it's making it hard to taker seriously as a professional broadcaster.

The OED haven't changed the meaning - they're descriptive, not prescriptive which means they just provide a record of how people use language. They don't create the words or their meanings, just write down how they're used. Which is why it makes me laugh when people say "it's in the dictionary" - any word that has been used sufficiently (in print) is in the OED, or should be.

Anneka is shocking on R2

I have the same issue with Mary-Ann Hobbs on 6music and the word 'delighted'. She can't go 5 minutes without saying it. I like her but it's very irritating.

Same with Jamie Oliver; "literally sprinkle with feta." NO YOU MORON, YOU ARE ONLY SPRINKLING. Gives me the rage..

Almost anything Jamie Oliver says makes me want to do some harm to someone. 'Just wazz it all on there?' Clearly his idea of a wazz & mine differ.

Capricorn76 Mary-Anne Hobbs winds me up as well. It's her breathy tones that get me. The woman sounds as if she's going to faint at any moment. She's overcome with delightedness no doubt.

Maybe some one could regift her a theasaurus? With a note: dear Anneka, I truly like your show, but you really give me the rage saying literally all the time, it actually makes me want to eat my own head. Please stop or I will honestly explode. Yours truly xxx

I had an email of complaint once from an unhappy customer. Without going into details, she claimed that she had "literally had someone throwing buckets of water over her through the whole experience." I replied that I didn't recall employing anyone to do such a thing.

Luckily this was long before the days of Trip Advisor.

Dont mind anneka on radio 2. But Alex Jones when she stands in for Vanessa in the early mornings - drivel. Tries to start trends which will NEVER be interesting. I'd literally prefer Anneka. (Like Alex on the one show though)
