Sorry, blatent misuse of AIBU but need a quick response!

I had the mirena fitted 9 months ago for contraception rather than heavy periods etc. all fine, after 6 months my periods stopped. So I've had 3 months of all fine, no bleeding spotting.

Then this afternoon I had some spotting and some slight cramping. i have just had to run to the bathroom as i have had what i can only describe as 'blood clot diarrhea'. bloody, with small clots literally running out of me. anyone had anything like this while using a mirena? I've not had anything like this before except immediately after the births of my DC!

Any thoughts/opinions?? HELP!

Hi queen, this happened to me once when I'd had my Mirena in for about 2 years. I'd still had regular periods whilst my Mirena was in place but they were extremely night and never caused any problems. However, one month I started losing large clots and bleeding quite heavily with some slight stomach cramps. After about 2 days of it I rang my GP for advice because it was nothing like I'd experienced before. I had to to in for swabs and things and they wanted to check the Mirena was still in place as the bleeding may have been a result of the coil having come out. That's the main thing I would be concerned about if I was you - can you normally feel your strings??

Only tummy cramps sore boobs and a bit of spotting. I think this needs checking. It could be a period but I really think you need checked out.

haven't ever investigated if I can feel the strings. DH has never mentioned that he can feel them.

it has settled a bit now, usual period like bleeding but still cramping. it was literally like a torrent running down my legs!

Might be best to call the gp tomorrow then?

I would yes. This happened to my friend, she said it was like a blood bath! She went to see her GP and it turned out her Mirena had fallen out - they waited for things to stabilise a little and then she just had another one put back in. I never got an answer as to why I had all the bleeding but it only ever happened that once.

I had this too, was very worrying, and painful, I had coil taken out "as it had moved". Tbh a male doc removed and being rather prudish about these things I ran as fast as I could, didn't ask questions.
I could also feel the strings, as could dp.
Hope you are ok and it settles down soon as.

thanks. I've been unconvinced about it all along to be honest. i think i'll call the gp tomorrow and arrange to get it removed if it hasn't removed itself already!! how annoying and inconvenient!!

This happened to me one month when the mirena had been in about 8 months, the month after - same again - lots of clots and cramping then the bugger came out! Was so suprised, the FPC nurse didn't seem at all suprised so must be more common than you think! Worth getting it checked though.
