to explain the rules of MN Bingo to those who were wondering WTAF last night?

Last night was very entertaining - until a few idiots started joining in without knowing the rules. So here's a handy cut out and keep guide for the next time.
To start a Bingo thread, ensure it covers at least two well known classic MN themes. Ensure it is outrageously judgey.
Do NOT however involve domestic violence, mental health, or disability, or anything else which any sane person would have strong views on.
Fair game includes Bridezillas, fruitshoots, Greggs Sausage Rolls, Parent and Child parking...
If you see someone being sucked in and posting an obvious 'hasn't got the joke' reply, don't JUST laugh at them. Tell them nicely it's a joke thread, either on the thread or by PM.
If you're getting a lot of serious replies, you've probably judged it wrong. Acknowledge it was a joke thread, apologise, and report it.
Meanwhile, some of the good ones from last night have been allowed back, so I'm going to enjoy reading them now!

OP posts:

And there have been many apologies, uptheanty, on this thread and others. Not because posters were angry, defensive or trying to deflect blame, but because they were genuinely sorry.

uptheanty · 01/01/2014 21:03

There has indeed been some lovely apologies from some lovely people.

I of course only meant to criticise those who hadn't accepted responsibility for their petty behaviour but were in fact dragging the issue out and blaming other more innocent parties involved.

GimmeDaBoobehz · 01/01/2014 21:08

Was there any particular reason it was happening on NYE or was it because everyone was bored?

Tiredemma · 01/01/2014 21:10

It will pass.

We have been through horrendous times (acts like we were all bombed out in the London underground in the blitz......)

uptheanty · 01/01/2014 21:10

Bored, drunk having a laugh.... Just got a bit out of hand.

Happens Grin

usualsuspect · 01/01/2014 21:13

Some posters are loving this just a little too much.

sanctimonious city or what.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 01/01/2014 21:16

I think that the whole thing was a total fuck up and this thread is in exceedingly bad taste.
A new employee has been thoroughly crucified, people were offended, others were annoyed, and yet again the site is all over the place at new year. All for the sake of a game. And yet again we have an AnyFucker style scenario where everyone piles in and makes it worse.
Why not give it a rest now?

usualsuspect · 01/01/2014 21:18

I've reported loads of posts on this thread.

Will be interesting to see if they get deleted.

Madambossyboots · 01/01/2014 21:23

Saggy.... People are entitled to express their views, why the angry pants?

uptheanty · 01/01/2014 21:24

I'm not sure who the last posts are directed at Confused,
But just incase I've overstepped my place, I will bow out.

Very sorry to anyone I may have offended inadvertently but I have no wish to be involved in a bun fight.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 01/01/2014 21:33

Im not angry. Im just sad that things have kicked off again. It happens every year. And the treatment Julie received was appalling.
Its revolting when everyone piles in and there's a riot. Mainly people who weren't even involved.
And this thread is just rubbing salt in the wound. What's the point?
A mistake was made. The ensuing furore is unnecessary.

Madambossyboots · 01/01/2014 21:45

Ok I see your point. I don't understand why it's Julie fault though. That's definitely unfair.
I only joined about a month ago so am unaware that this has happened before.
I was however "there" and reported a few threads before I realised something stupid was going on, but have nc to avoid any possible bother caused by my opinions on the night. Namely that people were just being horrible for the sake of it.
It's an awful shame innocent people are being made to suffer.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 01/01/2014 21:49

I don't think it was Julie's fault. And I think it is all a storm in a teacup.

GoshAnneGorilla · 01/01/2014 21:58

The only "rules" on this site are the ones set by MNHQ, because it's their site.

Sorry OP, but YABU, you don't get to set your own little rules for the common herd who "don't get it".

If certain people realised this and stopped feeling so ridiculously entitled to special treatment, because they are of apparently such high value to the site and the hoi polloi who post on it, things would be much better for everyone.

clam · 01/01/2014 22:11

Will someone please fill me in on who the hell all the "MN Royalty" are that a couple of posters keep referring to?

usualsuspect · 01/01/2014 22:14

'Royalty' is any one that some posters don't like.

clam · 01/01/2014 22:22

Geckos was banging on on one of these threads about certain people being immune from deletes/bans because of who they are, whereas others get zapped. Like who?

usualsuspect · 01/01/2014 22:24

usually posters who never NC.

ilovesooty · 01/01/2014 22:41

Obviously posters who never name change are more recognisable but I think the concept of royalty is more complex than that. It rests in the perception of special treatment, enhanced profile and the behaviour that can go with it I think.

LedareAnsley · 01/01/2014 22:43

Geckos is hardly one to criticise others.

Don't worry on that account, clam.

AnUnearthlyChild · 01/01/2014 22:53

parsing and up the ante

The most socially awkward I have ever felt was when I was browsing party shoes for a big night out, and rejected a pair as they looked uncomfortable. A lady behind me asked to look and I said they might not be comfortable. Without looking round.

She replied, ' ah we'll that is one upside of being paralysed in a car crash. I can wear any bloody stupid high heeled shoes I want' and burst out laughing.

I looked round and of course She was in a wheelchair, and wearing the most gorgeous, outrageous shoes. :)

clam · 01/01/2014 23:04

Xmas Wink ledare

Hayleyh34 · 01/01/2014 23:05

Oh god who cares? I went out and had a lovely NYE - this is just a bloody website

SauceForTheGander · 01/01/2014 23:20

MN is so huge that you can find evidence to back up anything. If you want to believe

  1. It's full of bitches
  2. It's kind and supportive
  3. It's not as good as it used to be
  4. It's full of MN royalty calling the shots
  5. It's fair and humanist
  6. It's unfair and full of twats
  7. It's the best forum
  8. It's the worst forum

Then you will find, every single day, posts and threads to back up those beliefs

LedareAnsley · 01/01/2014 23:27

Good summary.
