to explain the rules of MN Bingo to those who were wondering WTAF last night?

Last night was very entertaining - until a few idiots started joining in without knowing the rules. So here's a handy cut out and keep guide for the next time.
To start a Bingo thread, ensure it covers at least two well known classic MN themes. Ensure it is outrageously judgey.
Do NOT however involve domestic violence, mental health, or disability, or anything else which any sane person would have strong views on.
Fair game includes Bridezillas, fruitshoots, Greggs Sausage Rolls, Parent and Child parking...
If you see someone being sucked in and posting an obvious 'hasn't got the joke' reply, don't JUST laugh at them. Tell them nicely it's a joke thread, either on the thread or by PM.
If you're getting a lot of serious replies, you've probably judged it wrong. Acknowledge it was a joke thread, apologise, and report it.
Meanwhile, some of the good ones from last night have been allowed back, so I'm going to enjoy reading them now!

I missed new years eve as I was ill and now I missed this.

I need to live it through you all!

MammaTJ · 01/01/2014 09:34

Thank you Dame, some needed that explaining.

Misspixietrix · 01/01/2014 09:38

No! Don't let them in on it OP! Grin.

NotJustACigar · 01/01/2014 09:39

Ah that makes much more sense! Catching up this morning I was under the impression mn bingo involved posting horrible, nasty, racist stuff. What you're referring to actually sounds quite funny. I take it that it got out of hand and people really did start posting horrible, offensive stuff, though?

DameDeepRedBetty · 01/01/2014 09:40

I wouldn't have mentioned it if last night's game of Bingo hadn't ended up breaking MN Misspixie! There were some really awful ones, started by people who'd clearly overdone the Wine, and in the end the whole site was locked down for about an hour.

Bit late for this now isn't it? Hmm

It's usual to set the rules and make sure everyone understands before the game starts.

DameDeepRedBetty · 01/01/2014 09:42

If you have a look through AIBU and also Chat this morning, some of the un-offensive ones have been re-instated.

YANBU

You are however ....in my opinion....being slightly obnoxious & self righteous.

CoffeeTea103 · 01/01/2014 09:43

You op need a life.Hmm

Tiredemma · 01/01/2014 09:44

Sounds like a lot of people have an incredible amount of time to waste on their hands.

Why don't you all just go to the 'Unanswered Threads' link and give real help and advice out on there???

DameDeepRedBetty · 01/01/2014 09:44

BankWadger I wasn't here last night, picked up on the whole thing early this morning.

Thank you Smile

As an aside, sending those with hangovers strength and courage ....

coffeeinbed · 01/01/2014 09:45

I think that if you have to explain a joke then the joke wasn't funny to start with.

coffeeinbed · 01/01/2014 09:48

Not that some of the joke threads last night weren't. but then they didn't need explaining.
the bandwagon effect wasn't.

Misspixietrix · 01/01/2014 10:02

DameDeep I didn't know it broke MN Grin Sorry HQ!I fell asleep and was woken by the Fireworks on the Television. Were they both On AIBU and Chat?

DameDeepRedBetty · 01/01/2014 10:07

Apparently they were all over the place Pixie

I'd been on earlier, then snuggled and watched Kind Hearts and Coronets, then fell asleep on the sofa until about four this morning, and went to MN as I didn't feel sleepy anymore, and found the whole place still in a bit of an uproar.

Agree OP.

Just been catching up on this. (look in 'chat' if you've no idea about last night - 2 threads there)

I think it's an awful shame the site got shut down on a night when allot of people are feeling more vulnerable than usual. ie NYE.

Whatever your stance is on what constitutes a 'joke', or not, everyone must agree it was a daft decision to leave MN in the hands of ONE person on NYE. I'm glad it wasn't me in charge of it all last night.

SauceForTheGander · 01/01/2014 10:10

Dame Rowan has commented in chat.

I felt sorry for Julie - I think things may have been mishandled but I didn't see the deleted threads so can't say if they were funny or inappropriate.

But the bottom line is Julie was on her own and did her best - am sure.

DameDeepRedBetty · 01/01/2014 10:14

Sauce thanks I'll have a look.

SauceForTheGander · 01/01/2014 10:15

FWIW I think your MN bingo rules would have avoided a lot of this Smile

Sorry, some one who wasn't 'playing' the 'game' is explaining the 'rules'?

I wasn't playing either though I did come online right before it was locked down so got what was happening. It does not change the fact if there was a game being played, rules should have been set down for all to see. By someone actually involved.

DameDeepRedBetty · 01/01/2014 10:21

Absolutely Euphemia.

I've had a look at Rowan's update. Poor Julie!

OP posts:
roadwalker · 01/01/2014 10:22

Sad for those who needed MN last night
Even those who stayed within the rules cluttered the place up

Misspixietrix · 01/01/2014 10:24

That's the reason why I think some people didn't get the Joke. That the are sometimes some bonkers threads started where people are deadly serious. Maybe those that didn't get the joke were just on default mode to having to feel they needed to stand up for whatever they believe in. Even though not necessary :)
