to 'safeguard' my neighours shiny new computer kit ?

A couple weeks ago a signed-for package for me was left with a neighbour.

The neighbour says a male from another flat collected an item, and he would not be able to identify that person as he wasn't really paying attention.Hmm

The consignment number on that delivery was erroneous and I have only just been able to track it omitting a digit.

In the interim fate has delivered:

  1. A shiny piece of computer equipment for the neighbour signed for by me...
  1. and an interesting dilemma:

Do I let him have it or do I await a successful resolution of my missing package ?

Tell him, straight faced 'Someone else signed for it and I couldn't tell you who, as I wasn't really paying attention'. See if he flinches! Grin

Police and both couriers have been informed.

So he's basically nicked your package?

I wouldn't go out of my way to give your neighbour the package you have for him. I would probably be a bit too busy to answer the door to him for a week at least.

Trouble is that I suppose it's possible the courier deliberately put a slightly incorrect tracking number and took the item himself.

But that still leaves the root problem of why the neighbour is saying he can't identify someone who was stood right inches in front of him.

I suppose two wrongs don't make a right and all that twaddle but I'd be bloody tempted. Give him his own excuse and see what he says.
