Sorry Mail link

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2531093/I-feel-like-not-body-anymore-Vegetarians-outrage-going-Nandos-served-chicken-mistake.html

She asked for grilled halloumi cheese pitta and was served chicken. Which she ate half and didn't realise as she was talking to her friend.

She tried to make herself sick and had to sent home from work the next day as she was so upset and feels her body is not her own anymore.

How you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between cheese and chicken is a little beyond me. The cheese would be gooey and runny and chicken would have chewy - and they both have completely difference tastes??

It doesn't mention this in the article but the server always comes over and says - "chicken burger with medium sauce" etc so surely they probably said chicken pitta to her too??

But maybe iabu because she has never had meat before for religious reasons.

OP posts:

Hardly the end of the world is it? And to all those dissing Nando's - stop it! Go and have their butterfly chicken with fruity marinade - TO DIE FOR! For her to say she didnt notice it was chicken is rubbish. Nobody died and worse things happen in life - she's way too precious.

Blu · 31/12/2013 17:25

OP read my post carefully again. The belittling people of non-mainstream views, religion and ethnic minorities line was about the Daily Mail, not you.

RockinAroundTheXmasTreeHippy · 31/12/2013 17:29

YABVVVVVVVVVVU!!!!!

Similar happened to my daughter & she had nightmares for months, she STILL years later remembers it with absolute horror -

how would you feel if you ate a piece of meat - & then found out it was human flesh, be she's to conscientious vegetarian that is pretty much on par

RockinAroundTheXmasTreeHippy · 31/12/2013 17:31

Autocorrect fail IF SHE IS A...

scottishmummy · 31/12/2013 17:32

Did you daughter go to press and daily mail.did she get a picture taken?
I'm not disputing the upset at eating chicken, surprised she went to press
In particular daily mail.

RockinAroundTheXmasTreeHippy · 31/12/2013 17:35

No, but to be honest, because the slack, its no big deal attitude of the people who made the mistake (as born out by replies on here) I can TOTALLY understand why someone would be incensed enough to go to the press & make a big deal out if it.

scottishmummy · 31/12/2013 17:42

See I completely understand upset, revulsion at what she inadvertently ate
I don't understand going to daily mail, big sad face, photo and personal details job
It's seems v disproportionate,it seems attention seeking, but I've read elsewhere she's apparently an aspiring model.perhaps this is a media push

Mignonette · 31/12/2013 17:43

I eat human flesh every time I bite my nails and cuticles to be honest. My flesh, but still human.

And no I wouldn't go to the press, take time off work leaving other people to cover for my absence and try to launch a career as a topless model .

GimmeDaBoobehz · 31/12/2013 17:43

I think that if she isn't used to eating meat she might not have noted.

However if they announced the meal and she didn't listen, then it's also her fault as well as the server.

But I think the server must've got the order wrong and that's not on. Some people are allergic to things so they really should be careful what they give someone.

If someone doesn't want to eat something they have every right not to.

Yep, the chicken did too! Wink

BeCool · 31/12/2013 18:03

I've seen worse reactions from people who have received an over done steak!!

I don't think she is being unreasonable to be totally pissed off.

And unless you've been a lifelong veggie I don't think you are really fit to make a proper judgement about it.

If eating meat is no big deal to you how can you seriously put yourself in the shoes of a lifelong vegetarian?? You can't.

scottishmummy · 31/12/2013 18:10

No issue with her response in the moment, revulsion, upset.completely understand
Daily mail,no I dont understand.it seems opportunistic grab at attention

whatever5 · 31/12/2013 18:12

I think Nandos have made a pretty huge mistake. If she has never eaten meat before this would be a huge deal particularly as she is vegetarian for religious reasons.

I don't know what they could do about it once the mistake had been made but offering her vouchers for another meal as compensation is pretty pathetic. Why would she want to eat there again?

whatever5 · 31/12/2013 18:14

I think she went to the Daily Mail to try and punish Nandos for not taking their mistake very seriously. I don't blame her really.

scottishmummy · 31/12/2013 18:15

She could go to a no win no halloumi solicitor pursue private claim
Mistake, yes nando admit culpability.what are you suggesting?financial compensation?

AnUnearthlyChild · 31/12/2013 18:16

I have absolutely nothing intelligent to add to the debate.

But I REALLY want halloumi now. I live in the arse end of nowhere and cannot get it.

grovel · 31/12/2013 18:17

She missed a trick. She could have done a Page 3 photo with her private parts covered by a Nandos voucher.

scottishmummy · 31/12/2013 18:18

Do you have daily mail on speed dial for any upset you suffer whatever?
Will we see you anytime soon,in daily mail sad face, details of your job?
Seeing you think this is an appropriate course action

bruffin · 31/12/2013 18:20

But I REALLY want halloumi now
Me too. I am actually half greek cypriot and was bought up on the stuff. We had great jars of home made halloumi in brine shipped over from Cyprus when i was a little girl in the 60s. Thankfully we have turkish shops near by who do the proper stuff not the horrible stuff in supermarkets that has chilli added or marinated recipes every other cook is bringing out now.

BackOnlyBriefly · 31/12/2013 18:25

I can see that someone might decide to be vegetarian and that's fine by me, but we are omnivores and we do live in a world where people eat meat all the time. If you teach kids that it's so vile that they have nightmares at the thought of eating meat you are not doing them any favours.

Those vegetarians who feel that strongly about it. How do you deal with seeing other people eat? Do you have to look away and hide your revulsion?

scottishmummy · 31/12/2013 18:27

As I said,She could go to a no win,no halloumi solicitor pursue private claim

AmazingBouncingFerret · 31/12/2013 18:27

I missed a nice media opportunity here. Similar happened to me in costas. I order a cheese and ham toastie and they brought over a tuna melt. Didn't realise until I bit into it. I felt awful all day. Can't stand tuna. Never thought to take a day off work either.

Bugger.

MerylStrop · 31/12/2013 18:29

If you are that conscientious as a vegetarian you should probably allow the contents of your meal to register either to your eyes or tastebuds, not trough it down unthinkingly.....especially when patronising somewhere that is basically a fast food restaurant.

Nanados fucked up, should be unequivocal in their apology - its pretty poor customer service to serve meat to someone ordering the vegetarian option. But she is at least 50% responsible.

scottishmummy · 31/12/2013 18:31

Inconsolable she missed work,Not so inconsolable that she couldn't be in daily mail
