To close my JL account -they have been repeatedly rubbish over Christmas

JL are coasting. They stuffed up my Christmas deliveries, missing things out of parcels, not delivering on time, delivering to wrong store then returning stuff, delivering only one of a two part item. . . I could go on but god knows how many emails and several phone calls (to wearily resigned call centre staff 'you're not the first') they have now failed to credit my account for the order they lost so spectacularly it was easier to cancel it and re-order than hang around wondering if it would ever turn up.

This, plus their weird time lag between billing and payment, means I've had enough. Free coffee or not, I'm off.

I have heard tell of cards with better cash-back rates in any case.

It's only been a year and I started with such high hopes and affection. Now I am more disappointed than angry - but I've had enough.

Of course you're not unreasonable.

Starting with high hopes and affection sets you for a fall though unfortunately, they're a business like any and all have their failings, especially at the christmas rush

AwfulMaureen · 29/12/2013 16:33

Had to comment on your "high hopes and affection" too.....high hopes...fine...affection....nope. It's just a shop.

thepurgingmary · 29/12/2013 16:47

Hmm, 'affection' stuff was meant to be tongue in cheek, and, yeah, I know it's a business. Looks like I've not got the hang of getting the MN tone right yet.

Was really wondering if I'd been unlucky or if JL has overreached itself and other people had had similar experiences (and yes, I should have just said that).

I ordered from JO to be delivered to my local Waitrose for collection -no problems at all.

But, given the increase in demand at this time of year, there's bound to be more people experiencing problems.

Did you order in plenty of time or fairly last minute? This might make a difference. Not sure if any other stores do better at Christmas other than Amazon but that's dependent on their flippin' couriers.

"Looks like I've not got the hang of getting the MN tone right yet."

Oh for goodness sake don't ever change your posting to get the 'MN tone' right! The last thing you want to be is a 'MN clone'. Be yourself and post how you want to. There are all sorts of posters on MN with all sorts of posting tones and style. It's what makes it a great site.

YANBU to be disappointed by John Lewis. Closing your account with them will only affect you though; they're not going to cry. So if it's no good to you close it, or perhaps see how things are when it's not Christmas. Most retailers struggle to get it right at Christmas.

Killinascullion · 29/12/2013 16:51

Meant John Lewis not JO, sorry!

ProfondoRosso · 29/12/2013 16:51

That's a pain, Mary, but the one thing I'd say right now is COMPO.

DH got £90 compensation throughout last year from them for mistakes with deliveries. They are very good for this. Email customer services and don't be afraid to suggest you feel that some compensation for the inconvenience you've been caused would be appropriate.

Changebagsandtinselrags · 29/12/2013 16:54

Me too, shit service from JL this year.

thepurgingmary · 29/12/2013 17:02

I was very organised and left LOADS of time. And still ended up battling through Oxford Street to buy stuff in store that had gone out of stock online between them stuffing the orders up.

Of course Christmas is busy - it's their job to plan for that. It wasn't just one mistake with one order, there was at least one error on every order and the real failure is the inability to put things right quickly and easily. I should not have to chase refunds they have assured me have gone through.

If you're unhappy, close the account. But if you think you're going to have better luck elsewhere, you're delusional.
