To expect better service than this from John Lewis?

So, my dishwasher packed up just before Christmas.i ordered a replacement from John Lewis and paid an extra £8.50 for a delivery between 11 and3pm today. Specifically chose JL to avoid any delivery issues!

Took dogs for a walk , stupidly and fatally left my mobile at home, and got back at 1030 to discover they had tried to deliver at ten past ten! Rang the number on the card. They had no record of my order but eventually traced it via my email address. As it was an online order, they had to put me through to despatch. I waited 15 minutes on hold, only to be told they couldn't get through, to despatch, and would ring me back. They cannot guarantee delivery today.

I am hopping mad, and waiting to hear back from them. Have left a message on the mobile number of the delivery people.

May as we'll have gone to an online discount place. So disappointed.

Use ao.com. I bought a fridge-freezer from them last year, and DD has just bought a new washer - they deliver on time, they keep you informed and their prices are really good.

FourAndDone · 30/12/2013 14:55

I haven't used ao.com personally but have also heard good things Smile

Got thru after 25 mins on hold. Still can't explain when I might get it. Will ring back in five minutes they say.

John Lewis did this to us. We paid for delivery, it didn't arrive. They agreed on another day and it didn't bloody arrive! Will not be ordering from them again. I know they use delivery companies but for the prices they charge, they should ensure they use better deliverers!

I've found JL dreadful this year. As well as a run of pre Christmas issues, I Was emailed my click and collect confirmation for 2pm today. Arrived in store at 130 as I also wanted a pre diet cake. Got a text at 145 to say its not ready until tomorrow.

Hope you get your dishwasher sorted.

We've used appliances online (ao) twice now and they're brilliant. My only irritation with them is their follow up call which is a friendly but persistent sales pitch for extended warranties.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 30/12/2013 15:25

I've only just seen this thread, so am coming in a bit late but YANBU!

Not that it being JL makes a difference, but if you schedule a delivery for between 11 & 3 you expect it between 11 & 3!

I hope you get your dishwasher very soon!

I know how you feel OP. John Lewis have cocked up two Christmas-related orders for me this year. I ordered a sofa bed in early October - to make sure it was in time for Christmas, but the member of staff who put the order through for me - who works in their sofa department and so who you'd expect to spot this kind of thing - didn't notice we'd chosen a fabric that wasn't compatible with the frame we'd ordered. It took them three weeks to notice, by which time they couldn't guarantee Christmas delivery (and we're still waiting for it).

So we ordered a small folding bed and some bedding for the family member who was going to be staying with us, who we'd ordered the sofa bed for. Half the delivery turned up, not including the bed. Where was the bed? John Lewis had no idea.

I spent over an hour on the phone to them on the 23rd, when obviously no-one has anything better to do than listen to the call centre operator telling you how surprised he is you haven't finished your Christmas shopping yet (well, I might have done if your company hadn't fucked up my order, matey). I asked for the complaints number but guess what? They don't have one. The bed did actually turn up the next day, which was odd since I'd been told by the man in the call centre that there was no chance of this happening.

I've had a few problems with them before, but something seems to have gone particularly wrong this Christmas. They need to sort their act out.

Well no one had actioned my call from Saturday. After much holding on the line I was told it was dispatched thru the suppliers (Bosch) Whose earliest delivery date is now eighth January. Then I was told to wait for a call tomorrow from supplier to see if there was anything sooner.asked to speak to manager at this point and have now been promised delivery between ten and 12 tomorrow. Plus some recompense. Let's wait and see.

Really surprised how much this has got to me! It's all to do with that comforting reliable image they have. Turns out they're as rubbish as the rest! Ironically have been to apps online in past. Should have stuck with them....

If it doesn't turn up tomorrow I am cancelling order. Insurance has to be cancelled separately however. Jeeze!

Sorry to hear others have had similar experiences.

Well, they arrived today. With a dishwasher.
THE WRONG MODEL!!!!!!!!!!!
Slimline as opposed to full size. Only realised after they had gone.
JL admit it's their mistake.
Will await a call on Thursday. In the meantime at least I have a dishwasher.

John Lewis online are shite. Much worse than actually buying from a person in the store. The online store is damaging the reputation of the proper shops.

Marrow · 01/01/2014 16:17

YABU. I am still waiting on a click and collect order that was supposed to arrive on 21st Dec. Customer services told me six days ago that I would be hearing from their carriers shortly but nothing yet. I normally can't fault their service but very unhappy this year.

Marrow · 01/01/2014 21:00

Oops. That should say you are NOT being unreasonable!
