AIBU to ask who does DIY on Boxing Day?

RoseRedder · 26/12/2013 09:50

Started and 9.30am

Someone is hammering and drilling (they are a youngish couple without children so it's not like they are assemebling a present)

BANG BANG BANG DRRRRRRRR BANG BANG BANG DRRRRR

I know it's not a Sunday morning but surely this is inconsiderate?

Would I be unreasonable to knock on their door and ask them to stop?

Well, if it gets to, say, children's bedtime, then it would be the time to knock. Not this early in the morning.

RoseRedder · 26/12/2013 10:25

Too much EastEnders Blush

I would worry if he starts putting the wall back up in the new years, he might be boxing the ILs up in there.

LondonMother · 26/12/2013 10:27

I hope it's not a loadbearing wall.

Lweji · 26/12/2013 10:38

do update us if the house falls down, will you? :)

RoseRedder · 26/12/2013 10:46

Well you can hardly tell the Police that you suspect domestic violence since, as soon as the Police speak to your neighbour, the neighbour will confirm to them that he'd already told you that they're DIYing.

RoseRedder · 26/12/2013 10:57

True fruOla

Police are on there way though

Things escalated

What happened?!

RoseRedder · 26/12/2013 11:13

he's thrown a microwave out the back door (glass doors) onto the balcony.

I heard the glass smashing and phoned the police. They are not here yet but it sounds like he is destroying the place.

Only heard her briefly.

I've asked one of my other neighbours to knock on the door but he doesn't want to be involved

Lweji · 26/12/2013 11:18

Oh. Sad

It looks like your instincts were correct.

I wouldn't be going knocking on his door at this stage either. I don't blame your neighbour.

LuciusMalfoyisSmokingHot · 26/12/2013 11:20

I know xmas turns people into crazies, but shit that is bat shit crazy, its scary.

glasgowsteven · 26/12/2013 11:25

He should not have thrown the microwave...especially if he is on a higher level than ground, is where it landed a shared area..

He may avoid the in laws after all

Mrswellyboot · 26/12/2013 11:27

My dh is doing DIY.. Sheeting the attic. But we have no neighbours !

RoseRedder · 26/12/2013 11:32

it landed on his balcony glasgowsteven

I hope he will avoid his inlaws due to the fact he'll be jail! But that's unlikely is it? I'm in the house on my own today so it's all a bit surreal

OP posts:
Lweji · 26/12/2013 11:35

If she wants, she could get an injunction. Will you talk to her when/if he's gone?

Drop her the contacts for www.ncdv.org.uk/ (fast, free injunction) and WA.

glasgowsteven · 26/12/2013 11:36

I meant I think he will get arrested. When police arrive he will have a lot of explianing to do

To ensure that thy come you could phd again, ifvyoubheard a woman screaming say

glasgowsteven · 26/12/2013 11:36

Phone again

FruOla · 26/12/2013 11:38
Shock

So you think he lied to you about the DIY in the first place?

I hope his DW/DP is OK.

sweetmelissa · 26/12/2013 11:40

Before children my husband would very often tackle DIY jobs on Boxing Day as it was one of the few days he got off from work. Also, as others have said, it was rare of get a day off together so it was an ideal opportunity to get jobs done together, and sorry I don't think 9.30 am is too early. I think I would have been a little upset had a neighbour asked us to stop then - though of course much earlier would have been unreasonable of us.

My husband also worked in the DIY trade for many years and found Boxing Day was one of the busiest of the year for people doing jobs, and then having to rush out for extra paint/wood/nails etc.

Lweji · 26/12/2013 11:41

RTFT comes to mind, it's not that long...

sweetmelissa · 26/12/2013 11:41

OMG, just read your update. Hope you're ok, OP! WOW.

MrsSteptoe · 26/12/2013 11:42

Did I miss something? Is it not possible that he's just a bit of an arse who chucked a broken microwave carelessly out of a door while he's doing a bit of DIY? I wouldn't, but I've seen plenty of morons who would.

FruOla · 26/12/2013 11:57

I get the impression that the OP meant that he'd thrown the microwave through the glass door.
