It is probably present pile envy but I am finding it a bit vulgar. Plus it is making our small pile look crap.

*another baby forum

BrianTheMole · 25/12/2013 18:52

Righty ho. I think I just about understood that Confused. Although this thread is about fb and photos. Fine to go off on a tangent, but probably best to mention you are talking about other random forums, and not fb. Otherwise people will wonder why you have people on fb who you consider vulgar and crass. Seeing as fb is the topic of conversation.

Geckos48 · 25/12/2013 18:55

Ah okay Suzanne so you are not just scorning other people who have bought stuff for their kids, you are doing it in the knowledge that you did exactly the same for your kids.

Just wanted to be clear about that.

somewherewest · 25/12/2013 19:01

Just posted on the other Facebook & presents thread about this. I've got about a hundred Facebook friends and have never had a single Christmas present pic appear on my feed. It seems I'm very unusual

overfacebook · 25/12/2013 19:06

Yabu.

Laquitar · 25/12/2013 19:13

Some of those people might be very happy because they didnt have presents when they were children.imo they are entitled to be happy and to enjoy it.
Or they could had a rough time before and they are proud that they came out of the shit.

In any case what do yoy want them to do? Stand there before taking the photo and say 'oh no dh i think we should remove half of the parcels in case iur photo is tacky. No, put a sign there on the pile with a disclaimer that underneath the wrapping there are wooden toys. No plastic tat. In case our friends think that we are cheap and tacky'.

loveolives · 25/12/2013 19:17

BrianTheMole, was nursing at the keyboard.

Will use whatever examples I like. Same thing.

perplexedpirate · 25/12/2013 19:18

YANBU. It would be lovely to see smiley children opening presents, but just photographing a pile of stuff is weird.
It strikes me as very show-offy and unpleasant.

drivingmisslazy · 25/12/2013 19:22

I don't live near a lot of my family and find facebook brill to see photo's and also share to the mass. I think YABU

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2013 19:33

I agree with pirate. A pile of unwrapped presents arranged artfully is not fun. Seeing the person opening presents is fun.

DS1's (140 FB seems to now have a lot of pics of teen girls' feet wearing pristine designer trainers. V odd.

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2013 19:34

14-he's not 140, Smile I feel 140 mind.

timidviper · 25/12/2013 19:41

It's each to their own. We have some friends with a lot of money who spend more than we do and others with less that spend less.

It helps to remember the adage "Contentment is not getting everything you want, it is appreciating everything you've got"

IamInvisible · 25/12/2013 19:42

Oh fuck! That's DS1 odd then. Last week he put a photo of his pristine, designer, most expensive trainers, probably any shoes actually, I have ever bought on Instagram. They were his birthday present, he had hankered after them for months and wanted to show his friends.

He got another pair of ridiculously expensive trainers today, they will more than likely go on Instagram at some point.

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2013 19:55

TBF Iam DS1 did once take a picture of his new footy boots but they were on his bed, not on his feet. He put them on FB.

I just laughed at the 'feet selfies' today and not sure what comments the girls were expecting. Confused

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2013 19:56

But really the only reason to put footy boots/trainers on FB is to show them off isn't it?

usualsuspect · 25/12/2013 20:00

What exactly do you think FB is for?

It's for posting statuses and pictures of your life.

IamInvisible · 25/12/2013 20:01

Yes, but that's what teens do, isn't it? Let's be honest, we all would have if the technology was available in the 80s. To me, it just cuts out the "what did you get for Christmas" on the first day back at school.

BrianTheMole · 25/12/2013 20:02

Will use whatever examples I like. Same thing.

Random forums with lots of strangers on it, and fb where you have friends and family on it not are not the same thing. Apart from the fact that you use the internet to access them. Unless of course you have loads of strangers on fb. Then it would be pretty much the same thing. Hth.

usualsuspect · 25/12/2013 20:02

There have been some lovely pictures on my news feed today.

I don't think my friends are showing off or bragging.

Just posting snapshots of their lives.

Actually I haven't posted any pics today. I might later. If I do, then it will be:

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2013 20:05

Oh yes Iam. Its definitely a teen thing. All one upmanship, and 'look what I have got'. Does make me cringe a bit though. I don't have FB myself so have escaped any pics of anybody I know and what they may have put on there.

If I had FB as a teen it would have a million pictures of John Taylor on and pictures of my new 12" picture disc to make everyone green with envy.

usualsuspect · 25/12/2013 20:07

Maybe I should post a picture of a lump of coal and a satsuma.

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2013 20:09

And a walnut usual don't forget the walnut. Grin
