Drink driving ( google not helping)

I am wondering how much wine I can have to stay in the safe limit.

Normally if I am driving the next day I don't touch wine at all, but will I be legal if I have 2 small glasses of wine with my dinner tomorrow ( I will not be driving until the morning)

Either way I don't mind.

Of course you will!

On average it takes an hour to remove a unit of alcohol from your blood. A couple of small glasses of wine is a couple of units.

Merry Christmas!

Catswiththumbs · 24/12/2013 16:18

That should be a small glass of wine is 2-3 units (175ml)

Google drink aware, it's all on there.

CaptChaosGlitteryBaubles · 24/12/2013 16:20

None at all. Even a small amount of alcohol in your system impedes your driving ability. There is no such thing as a safe limit, there is just the legal limit.

If you're not driving until the next day, then having a couple of glasses of wine should be ok, but the rule of thumb of an hour to remove a unit is only true when you have stopped drinking irrc.

Sirzy · 24/12/2013 16:21

For the next day that will be fine. Just don't go over the top.

I won't touch a drop if I am driving as that way I know I am safe, but will have 2 glasses if driving the next mornjng

daisychain01 · 24/12/2013 16:21

This time of year, don't bother drinking and driving - the police are out there (because they need to be) and a teensie bit over the limit and you'll wish you hadn't!

Happen to my DSis years ago and I've never forgotten it Sad on her behalf.

Sirzy · 24/12/2013 16:23

Daisy - the risk of the police should be the least of your worries, what about killing someone?

Don't drink drive ever.

SPSJSAT · 24/12/2013 16:25

Oh come on!!!

Two small glasses of wine with lunch then not driving until the next morning????

You'll be fine OP... So long as they are small glasses.

Pollydingdonmerrilyonhigh · 24/12/2013 16:26

Read the op people, seriously!! You should be fine the morning after 2 small glasses of wine with dinner.

SPSJSAT · 24/12/2013 16:27

Serious overuse of punctuation in my post there.

But really...

HairyGrotter · 24/12/2013 16:28

Jesus wept, have a couple of small glasses and enjoy them. You'll be well within the safe limit many hours later!

WooWooOwl · 24/12/2013 16:29

I wouldn't even think twice about having two glasses of wine with dinner if I had to drive the next day. There are plenty of people that drink that amount on a nightly basis.

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 24/12/2013 16:31

Lunch is about 4 so stop drinking at 6:30- 7:00 pm driving 6:30 in the morning.

caroldecker · 24/12/2013 16:32

On average a unit an hour is cleared from the system from about 30 mins after starting drinking. A bottle of 13.5% wine has 10 units. If you are leaving at 9am, then on average, you could drink the bottle as long as you start before 10.30pm.

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 24/12/2013 16:32

You would think having my licence for over 9 years I would know this.

OP posts:
MaryzBoychildCheeszuzCrizpz · 24/12/2013 16:35

I bet you could drink two bottles for lunch and be well under the following morning.

Not that I'm advising it, obvs, but worrying about a couple of glasses is silly.

SPSJSAT · 24/12/2013 16:36

Check here if you want to check.

Please note, I don't advocate using that site to see how much you can 'get away' with, i.e. use it as an excuse to drink and drive.

But it is useful for 'morning after' scenarios like yours.

DailyMailGail · 24/12/2013 16:37

Fair play to the OP for wanting to check. That's a very responsible approach to alcohol and driving.

SPSJSAT · 24/12/2013 16:39

Me neither DailyMailGail

My first post was in response to posters saying she shouldn't do it, not the OP.

octopusinasantasack · 24/12/2013 16:39

None. Better safe than sorry.

ImperialBlether · 24/12/2013 16:42

But for God's sake, what happened to common sense? If nobody could drink if they were driving the next day, they either could never drink or never drive!

HerrenaHarridan · 24/12/2013 16:43

None at dinner time the night before! Grin

MaryzBoychildCheeszuzCrizpz · 24/12/2013 16:44

This thread is obviously going to be a good gauge, not only of who hasn't RTFT, but also of who hasn't even bothered to RTFFirstPost Xmas Grin

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 24/12/2013 16:45

I normally don't drive the next day, but I think what make Christmas dinner a bit special is the wine that goes with it.

I will be working Boxing Day so I wanted to double check.

OP posts:
NuggetofPurestGreen · 24/12/2013 16:45

None??? So we should never drink at all if we are going to be driving the following day? I've heard it all now.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 24/12/2013 16:48

OP I thought at first you were asking if you could have two small glasses with dinner and drive home after that ie the same evening and was thinking "hmm bit dodgy". But then I read to the end of the paragraph unlike some people it seems
