I am in London. Lying in bed and it really feels like the house is going to get blown away. It seems to be getting worse.

I too am up listening to the racket outside I am on the coast on a hill wondering if the conservatory roof is going to blow off. It will ease off soon though so don't worry.

Awkwardsis · 23/12/2013 23:36

In east Anglia here and I'm in my bed which is actually shaking with the wind Shock we have a blocked up fireplace in the bedroom but clearly the wind is still coming down it at quite a rate. I've never experienced anything like it and Im on my own so i dont think ill be getting much sleep tonight. At least one of the fence panels has gone from the garden, I'm a bit worried what I'll find down there in the morning.

rach6122 · 23/12/2013 23:37

I'm really scared dh is up doing work so in bed alone really sounds like the windows are going to cave in. On the 5th floor in a block in London city.

sicutlilium · 23/12/2013 23:37

I am in North London and it's ferocious - the fence has come down on one side (not ours, fortunately, as we've just had that replaced).

LittleNoona · 23/12/2013 23:37

I'm west of London and I'm petrified.

Doesn't help that we have a dodgy chimney Shock

Notcontent · 23/12/2013 23:38

Thanks Bella. Yes, I am sure you're right... For some reason the sound of rain can be quite soothing but the sound of wind quite the opposite...

YANBU

I'm in East London/Essex and I always feel embarrassed about how scared I get...you know when other's get it so much worse.

But strong winds worry me more than other extreme weathers.

I have to keep checking the fence panels before I let the dog out the garden...because we're a semi so he could run straight out into the street if they blow down.

Notcontent · 23/12/2013 23:39

Yes, I am in North London too and it's bad - can also hear it blowing down the chimney.

Freddiefrog · 23/12/2013 23:41

I'm down on the South Coast and it's blowing a hooley and absolutely pissing down

So far, we're all in one piece, but there are a lot of trees down, damaged buildings and really bad flooding. I'm on top of a hill so the flooding doesn't worry me but I'm not sure how much fence or how many of our trees we'll have left come morning

BlueStonesBells · 23/12/2013 23:43

West London; I don't think I've ever known the house shake like this. Hang in there OP! It'll pass before morning.

TaraLott · 23/12/2013 23:44

I'm South coast too, it's horrible.

SourSweets · 23/12/2013 23:48

I'm in North London too, the wind is so bloody loud it keeps waking the baby up. Our neighbours very posh, expensive looking gate has come down already.

Balistapus · 23/12/2013 23:49

East London, 4th floor flat. The wind is slamming into the wall behind my bed, but it's the whistling of the wind through the front door key that I find spooky. You're not alone!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 23/12/2013 23:51

I was going to ask if you'd been at the sprouts already, OP!

woozlebear · 23/12/2013 23:52

South london here. Suddenly all the original fire places which made me fall in love with the house are a lot less appealing. Grit and soot being chucked down. Lying in bed with windows rattling and chimneys whistling and booming. Curtains are actually blowing about a bit round the sides!!!! Stupid Victorian windows.

It sounds like there's so much wind blowing about in the loft cavity I'm worried there's a hole in the roof. We've taken everything out of the conservatory in case something falls.

I have a lamp post feet away from my bedHmm it bobs about alarmingly but apparently it's safe and supposed to. Made the council come and check it twice before the first gale. Still don't like it....

tulip27 · 23/12/2013 23:52

In Wiltshire here on top of a hill . Really windy and rainy and water seems to be pouring down the chimney and out of the wood burning stove !!
Certainly too scared to sleep here too !

Asheth · 23/12/2013 23:53

I'm in devon and the sound of the wind has been incredible. Yanbu to find it scary! I'm sure the house was shaking. But it has died down a bit now. Fingers crossed the worst is over.

recall · 23/12/2013 23:53

I'm in Devon, I just went outside and the wind made my face go like Wallace and Grommit Shock

CurlyhairedAssassin · 23/12/2013 23:54

Blimey , is it really that bad ? I think it's supposed to be heading our way tomorrow (northwest )

bumbumsmummy · 23/12/2013 23:55

South east coast n it's definitely blowing a hooley was out driving and it was blowing the car about very scared

Balistapus · 23/12/2013 23:58

I had a similar thought earlier Woozle when I saw the 100ft crane outside my window wobbling away. I made a mental calculation that it was about 150ft away and breathed a sigh of relief!

trikken · 23/12/2013 23:58

Dorset and its pouring down too and windy as anything. My windows are shaking. I am scared too. Dh just got back from work so thats good.

MrsTomHardy · 23/12/2013 23:59

I'm in West Sussex and its bad here!i can't sleep, and alarm set for 7am as need to go food shopping Hmm

wetaugust · 24/12/2013 00:01

the wind is howling outside, the trees are bending and the outside light keeps flickering on and off in true horror film mode.

But I am warm and snug in my 1980s fireplace-less centrally heated featureless modern box.

woozlebear · 24/12/2013 00:01

Phew balista! Shock
