AIBU to hate people using "ick" or "icky" as an adjective.

It is not on. Unless you are three years old.

Stop it.

AND which is it anyway? "Ick" or Icky" - stop interchanging them. At least be consistent.

Yes, yes I realise I have indulged in many a word hating/loving thread but so what?

learnasyougo · 22/12/2013 22:35

icky bothers me a little bit. It's not nearly as bad as 'stabby', though. I'm glad you didn't use that one. The word usually crops up on threads like these, so I'm sure one will be along ina minute.

I guesa I can forgive icky from a younger person but past thirty it's just annoying.

SPsWantsCliffInHerStocking · 22/12/2013 22:36

Its very icky to use icky, well I think it is a bit ick

Salmotrutta · 22/12/2013 22:36

See, I don't mind "stabby" because at least it's derived from an actual word.

I don't think "ick" is an actual word.

Famzilla · 22/12/2013 22:37

"Gawjus" makes me foam at the mouth. Ick not so much.

WireCatGlitteryBaubles · 22/12/2013 22:37

Whilst we have a thread I also hate "are you on glue".

TalkieToaster · 22/12/2013 22:37

I said this on another thread tonight, but I can't stand 'scrummy'. I have to have my hands ready to clap over my ears, if I'm watching anything with Mary Berry in as she says it a lot and I can't bear it.

caruthers · 22/12/2013 22:38

I despise the words "Snack" and "Treat" but I doubt the bastards people who use them will stop just for me.

TalkieToaster · 22/12/2013 22:39

'Hey gawjuss, do you want an ickle scrummy snack or is that too icky?'

MOST. ANNOYING. SENTENCE. EVER.

Salmotrutta · 22/12/2013 22:40

Why not just say nauseating instead?

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 22/12/2013 22:41

Ick is onomatopoeia. Perfectly valid word.

Scrummy is a bit icky, though, I grant you that. Scummy is fine, though.

Salmotrutta · 22/12/2013 22:42

I had a very marvellous thread a few days ago (which got very big) about "my meal" and other such hideousness.

It was an awesome thread

I will not be silenced on the use of dreadful words and phrases.

I will man the battlements to The Death.

OP posts:
Salmotrutta · 22/12/2013 22:43

How is "ick" onomatopoeic?

I don't make an "ick" sound when I feel like puking.

OP posts:
HazeltheMcWitch · 22/12/2013 22:44

BOOM!

I hate the use of boom. Unless you are saying it omomatopoeically (sp?).

Or you are Baldrick and it is your poem.

loisismyhero · 22/12/2013 22:44

I hate 'makes my teeth itch' I have only ever seen it here. It makes my teeth itch Grin

Salmotrutta · 22/12/2013 22:44

Now "huuuueeey" is onomatopoeic for puking.

OP posts:
SecretRed · 22/12/2013 22:45

Ha ha, I love "are you on glue?" It sums up you are wrong and silly and a bit deluded really well!

TheSmallClanger · 22/12/2013 22:46

I go "ack" when I'm sick. Not ick.

I hate snack used as a verb. And I'm not keen on the verb "to bin" either. I suspect it isn't a real word at all.

NotQuiteCockney · 22/12/2013 22:46

Cats go 'ick' when they puke.

I more meant, it is a noise of disgust. Maybe just me ...

I'm surprised 'moist' and 'gusset' haven't come up, although I guess they are wrong in a different way ...

SecretRed · 22/12/2013 22:46

Also love the word onomatopoeic.

TalkieToaster · 22/12/2013 22:47

When I vomit, it's more like 'huurrrrraaaaaaaauugh'.

I wonder if, like sneezing, people from different parts of the world make different noises when they vomit?

WorraLiberty · 22/12/2013 22:48

Non?

"But Worra, you said you were feeling icky, non?"

Just fuck off! Fuck right off with your 'non' you stupid, silly, pretentious bastards Xmas Angry

It makes me feel fucking ick...

TalcAndTurnips · 22/12/2013 22:48

Salmo - where do you stand on the usage of these nursery words in deliberate irony/sarcasm/flippancy?

Are they completely outlawed in every sphere of thread etiquette?

TalkieToaster · 22/12/2013 22:48

Moist is only an acceptable word when used in reference to cake.

TheSmallClanger · 22/12/2013 22:49

I was caring for a cat in the week, which made the most disturbing and loud burping noises when it was being sick.

Nanny0gg · 22/12/2013 22:51
