To think that we should all wear massive wigs and huge side panniers on our skirts because it would teach us some stoicism and whatnot?

Can you tell I've been watching a bit of Marie Antoinette on Channel 5*? Grin

And pointy shoes would teach us fortitude.

How on earth did they even walk about with a massive wig on their head? Confused

Plus having your baby with about 40 courtiers squeezed into the room would surely be everyone's dream Shock

I quite fancy one of those huge cones with a veil they wore in medieval times.

I want a chainmail suit and one of those iron hats with horns, bugger the girly shit :o

It was all designed to keep us under control, who the fck can smack their Dh upside of head wearing a 3 foot high wig FGS. Pointy shoes were designed to stop us running the fck away. All those petticoats, hoops, bones, bustles and lumpy bits in the skirts were to make it so difficult for anyone to get into our knickers( which we didnt actually have then ) that it wasnt worth the bother :o

Yep chain mail, pointy iron hats big fck off big swords and one of those spiky iron balls on a chain is the way to go :o

Yes, hmm, some nice hose and a velvet doublet would be nice.

Better for running in.

And of course a big horse.

You've never seen my figure - I don't need the bustle. Have hips from hell, already Xmas Grin

I am sure my ILs would love to teach me some whatnot, though...

Did you know that in Versailles smartly dressed courtiers and aristos used to wee and poo behind curtains in whatever grand hall they happened to be in as there weren't separate rooms designated for such purposes.

I bet their wigs were full of ticks too.

Buzzardisnotina4birdroast · 22/12/2013 00:33

Oh the nits in them wigs!

FandangoLaLaLaLaLaLaLaaaa · 22/12/2013 00:41

How has no one used the word codpiece in this thread yet? Disappointing Grin

I would like an enormous ruff to go with my codpiece ala blackadder.

NettleTea · 22/12/2013 00:45

Ha ha DD and I more often than necessary dressing exactly this style for little trips to London!! those side panniers are OK on the SE train to cHaring Cross but a right bugger to drive a car in......

NettleTea · 22/12/2013 00:46

Sorry about terrible grammar, iPad.....

Buzzardisnotina4birdroast · 22/12/2013 00:49

Oh an enormous ruff is perfect for catching bits of chocolate/pastry when tucking into yuletide fodder.

ThomasLynn · 22/12/2013 00:50

I'd like a nice pair of Regency breeches. Good and baggy around the bum, hide all those flaws nicely.

squoosh · 22/12/2013 00:56

I like to hit the clubs on a Saturday night is a nice farthingale. Gets in the way a bit but certainly gets one noticed.

Salmotrutta · 22/12/2013 01:17

Weeing and pooing behind curtains??

I don't think you can beat a nice hauberk to ward off the odd arrow.
