My friend works at Aldi, his first customer of the day threw up all over the place, the till, the conveyor belt etc. She said afterwards that she had been ill all day but had to go out as she had no food in and thought she would be alright for a short trip.

Really?! She was so ill that she threw up and spread her germs around an entire supermarket yet thought this was ok? There are no houses in the area around there, and she would have had a corner shop much closer so if she was desperate, why not go there?

WTF is wrong with some people?

Life doesn't stop when one is ill unfortunately, feeding the family and other responsibilities comes before being ill.

I remember earlier this year I was like death with some sort of infection or other definitely contagious I ventured to the corner shop twice for stuff to sooth my throat but eventually had to go to a supermarket in order to feed my toddler, being a single mum and no family near by left no other option.

It is gross but she obviously had to do a shop,

OutragedFromLeeds · 20/12/2013 20:07

If she's have gone to Tesco Express that would have been fine would it?

What if she'd gone to Waitrose?

What are the rules on 'places it's ok to vomit in'? I'm guessing it's fine to puke in Argos, but Greggs is a definite no-no?

NewtRipley · 20/12/2013 20:07

Oh God

Maybe she meant "ill" when she said "sick"

I can't really see the point of analysing this, unless you are seriously saying you know better than her what was likely to happen, given how she felt.

IslaValargeone · 20/12/2013 20:08

I miscarried in the middle of a shop years ago.
Sometimes these things can't be helped.

Jebus · 20/12/2013 20:09

For all you or your friend know she is pregnant (??)

TheGinLushMinion · 20/12/2013 20:11

Feel quite sorry for her actually.

Bogeyface · 20/12/2013 20:12

Outraged

No that was to do with the number of people exposed to it, Argos would be a definite no-no at this time of year! If you must expose other people then surely it makes sense to make sure it is as small a number of people as possible?

She told my friend she had been ill all day which he took to mean throwing up.

OP posts:
lljkk · 20/12/2013 20:15

If she was that ill she wasn't thinking straight, no?

NewtRipley · 20/12/2013 20:16

Well he might be wrong.

I understand how horrible it must have been for your friend, but he doesn't know.

mistermakersgloopyglue · 20/12/2013 20:18

Christ on a bike, talk about kicking someone when they are down! They have probably had the shittiest of days (quite literally) and now they are being slagged off on the Internet.

As others have said, I am sure that person didn't walk into aldi with the sole intention of staging a dirty vomit protest. They probably thought they would be ok to pop in and get a few bits, who knows why they needed to come in and get some stuff? It's quite stressful at the moment, maybe they are stressed about Xmas and momentarily felt better so thought they would go for it?

And why would it have been ok for them to vomit all over a corner shop but not aldi?

Not the most was ant start to your friend's shift but YABU.

rookietherednosedreindeer · 20/12/2013 20:45

Gosh poor woman ( the one who was sick that is). Perhaps she had to go out and buy food for her family. Maybe she thought she was ok when she was lying down and didn't realise until she went out how ill she was.

Lifeisaboxofchocs · 20/12/2013 20:55

Good grief. Poor woman. To think, she might have had bugger all support and so forced herself into the supermarket to get some essential bits. The worst happens, she vomits. And then she has to face the likes of your friend, probably with a real catsbum face, who then bitches about her to friends. One of whom then bitches about it on a forum.
What a lovely pair you sound.

Canthaveitall · 20/12/2013 21:09

Two people have come into work this week despite being sick the night before. They both said thy were too busy not to come in. It's just ideas of grandiosity in my opinion. Neither had an answer when I pointed out they were passing it round the office in time for Christmas. Twats.

AchyFox · 20/12/2013 21:21

I get very very ill whenever I get tummy bugs, I dont know why I think it is just my weak spot.

A 15 mile walk will boost your immune system.Wink

CrohnicallySick · 20/12/2013 21:37

I really can't understand how people do this, I have NEVER thrown up without any warning at all. I can usually make it to the bathroom, failing that I can go down an alleyway or similar. In Aldi I'd have been able to grab a carrier bag I guess. Even when I was in hospital I managed to get up and fetch an emesis basin! It's like I physically can't be sick until I'm prepared.

Does it really come on people so quickly that they can't even turn their head and chuck on the floor rather than the till?

MrsGrasshead · 20/12/2013 21:44

She needed supplies and had no help. Poor woman.

OutragedFromLeeds · 20/12/2013 21:47

'Does it really come on people so quickly that they can't even turn their head and chuck on the floor rather than the till?'

Clearly, yes.

What's the alternative interpretation? That there are many people who willingly and deliberately vomit in supermarkets, on trains etc?

What do you think is more likely?

CrohnicallySick · 20/12/2013 21:51

The alternative is that people push their luck, thinking 'I can wait another minute' and then they find that they can't.

IHeartKingThistle · 20/12/2013 21:56

I don't think you're being unreasonable OP. If you've been throwing up all day 5 days before Christmas you don't go anywhere that will be heaving with people. I bet most of these people sympathising with the woman would be much less sympathetic if they'd been behind her in the queue and come down with it the next day.

GoldiChops · 20/12/2013 21:56

So this poorly woman is in desperate need of food, toiletries, whatever. Maybe sanpro or loo roll? Who knows. Clearly of course she should go into a small, narrow corner shop with low ceilings and the need to get close to people in the aisles (I'm generalising of course but you know what I mean), instead of a wide open supermarket with space to move around people and not breath in their face.

Depending on where she's located, this may be her local shop, a huge tesco extra is my 'local corner shop'. Maybe she couldn't face a walk and needed somewhere she knew she could park, it don't know of any shops near me with parking except the larger supermarkets.

Yes, throwing up is gross and you have to feel pity for whoever must clean it up but sometimes needs must! Have a heart!

OutragedFromLeeds · 20/12/2013 21:57

And you think that's more likely? That people are risking throwing up all over the checkout in Aldi? I think you must know different sorts of people to me!

NewtRipley · 20/12/2013 22:03

I agree Outraged

neunundneunzigluftballons · 20/12/2013 22:06

When I threw up on the pharmacy floor it came on instantly. Years later I had constant morning sickness for months on my first child but I could almost control the vomiting and time it appropriately but not that day. Frankly I was apologetic but I was so ill that I nearly collapsed as well so I have really never thought about it since, as I said above these things happen.

CrohnicallySick · 20/12/2013 22:06

This is how I imagine it going in their head:
Ohh, I feel funny, but I'm here at Aldi now, I'll just grab a few bits and I'll be fine, right, that's the bread, best hurry as I feel really awful now, let's get to the checkout quick. Oh, I really think I'm going to be sick but I've got this far, I don't want to have to come back later, I've only got to pay and then I'll be out of here... Oops!

I never said I know anyone who would deliberately throw up everywhere. But I really truly cannot imagine throwing up with NO warning, not even time to turn your head. Little kids I can understand as they aren't as aware of their bodies in general.

But an adult throwing up without them having ANY warning is completely incomprehensible to me. Can anyone who it's happened to explain to me what happens? Obviously I am the abnormal one- so what is normal?

MrsGrasshead · 20/12/2013 22:07

I would have said that too until I got a vomiting bug. I told my supervisor at work I felt a bit sick. She said, "well see how you go". An hour later I felt really sick - I told her. She said "well you're not being sick are you". Eventually I threw up in an open plan office. I then threw up several times in the bushes on the way home. To find my partner lying in bed with his coat and shoes on, having experienced the same. If it's that kind of bug, you have no control, believe me.
